Seller refusing sale due to low winning bid - what to do??

Hi,

Last night I bid on a dress that was on £0.99p with no bidders, so bid £1.10 and went to bed, woke up this morning to see had won the dress for £0.99p and was just about to pay when I noticed I had 2 messages in my inbox, 1st message was from seller saying that they want to cancel transaction due to not wanting to sell the dress for £0.99p as it cost her over £30 to buy,(it is used).
2nd message was a ebay cancellation request, with a note from the seller saying 'cannot possibly sell such an expensive dress for pennies'

That was it, no apology or anything. Am not that bothered about the dress to be honest, it was nice but i'll live without it, so what should I do? She is pretty new to selling, has 9 feedback as a buyer, should I just cancel but email her back to let her know that on ebay some things you get more than you think and other times not? And to perhaps put a minimum starting bid on in future?

Grrr just annoys me, I have been a buyer on ebay for a few years but last month decided to sell some clothes due to moving house and sold some gorgeous shoes new in box for 99p, but wouldn't of dreamed of cancelling the transaction!!

Also, don't want to get a NPB strike against me??

Many Thanks for any advice.

If sellers want a particular price they should use a higher starting price. I would disregard her emails and make a paypal payment. If she refuses to send open an NPS claim and give her a strike. Don't enter into any negotiation or correspondance via email.

If you send the Paypal payment then you cannot get a NPB strike, so you don't need to worry about that. I would pay and then open the NPS claim as soon as possible - I wouldn't email back or get into an argument over it.

Agreed with above - pay for it immediately so they can't raise a case against you.

I can't stand sellers who do this to try and save a few pence on fees! Follow it through and make sure you raise the appropriate case against them and then leave the appropriate feedback when the time comes so other buyers are aware in the future.

Sellers like this don't belong on ebay.

Actually as seller has opened a mutual they cannot now go for a full NPB so buyer doesn't even have to pay to avoid a strike.

OP, formally refuse the mutual, if you don't it closes in her favour anyway. Then as she has not even made any sort of apology to you I would leave at least a neutral saying 'seller refused to sell as sold at start bid' or something. Feedback is to warn other buyers and I would certainly want a heads up that a seller was a time waster, so | could avoid wasting my own time bidding on future items. So a positive would not be appropriate here. In fact I don't think I would even consider a negative too harsh if you felt that to be more appropriate.

This is the drawback for sellers who use the free 99p listings without understanding the risks, she tired to avoid fees and she lost out, so she needs to be aware that her strategy does not work.

Seller has done a mutual, you don't need to pay as she cannot now raise a full NPB. You do need to formally refuse the mutual though.

Decline the mutual. Don't worry that you have paid - you will get your money if she doesn't it. You never know she still mind send it rather than have the hassle of a case against her!
