I'm here Emm! I have had a virus thingy for a while and on Thursday I literally couldn't move around, just spent the day sleeping. Yesterday slightly better but still had to lie down a lot. Feel ok today, but when I try to do normal housework stuff I'm feeling wiped out. Have managed two loads of washing and that's it!

The house is still a mess, but I feel too poorly to even worry about it! I've done the washing up as I went along, not much to do as I'm just doing the minimum even for meals.

Emm, glad you enjoyed your week! Hope you managed to recharge your batteries, and good news too about the hours for work - that should help.

FW, I am so sorry about your Jen... thinking of you.

I haven't read back much, sorry if I have missed any other important news, please accept hugs til I can catch up!

    Evening messies.

So sorry that I've not been in recently. FW was kind enough to send a message, asking if I was OK. I'm fine, absolutely fine, just that every day I thought I must call in. Got to the end of the day, and thought "tomorrow". Where does time go?

JPS, sorry to hear you've been poorly. These bugs do take out of you, don't they? Try and take it easy while you're picking up, or you'll go backwards - hopefully not literally!

Emms, I'm so pleased that you feel your week's gone well, even if you don't quite know where it's gone. Your DD has 4 young children? Bless her, she must have to be very organised.

So, what have I been doing? Well, the house has been vacuumed twice this week, because now the cats are going out for quite a while each day, and I can clean the carpet without scaring them. Having said that, Star did come and give the hairdrier a good looking at, while I was drying my hair! The kitchen and bathroom floors have been washed, the lounge dusted (and puddy paw prints removed!) and, very gradually, some of the breakables are being put back, if somewhat further back on surfaces. Some WM loads have been done, but not many, as the weather has been pretty dire this week apart from yesterday and today. I had to re-wash some bits, as hanging them on the drier near the radiator just left them smelling very, very stale. Biotex to the rescue!

Despite it all sounding very good, we've blood stains on the duvet cover, from Garfy's cuts and scratches that madam has given him, so that's got to be changed tomorrow - really can't be bothered doing it tonight, and the stains are at the bottom of the bed. This room (the second bedroom) is full - clothes on drier, large box of family history papers and photos, plus another smaller box of photos, along with my tool box, a box of craft materials for birthday cards, and a large folder of papers to start making cards for Christmas. And DD2 called two days ago, to ask if she could come over on Tuesday and stay for 4-5 days! A lot of :):):), and a bit of  At least her bf's not coming over, too. Go on, admit it, you're sorry I called in now. ;)

    Hi all,

DH has been on housekeeping duties this weekend as I had a bit of a stomach bug, all fine now, just feel tired. the house is ok but I'm looking around and seeing lots of primping I'd like to do before our overseas guests arrive at the start of next month *eeeek*.

We're thinking about maybe looking at thinking about a woodburning stove as an alternative heat source so that's what I'm doing today. Might go to the beach later as the weather is gorgeous.
  • Hi Messies.
JPS, sorry to hear you`ve not been well - take it easy, these `virus thingies` can leave you feeing really washed out & drained for a bit. Hope you feel better soon, but do obey your body`s orders and rest up!
Alec E - sorry you`ve been `bugged` too - likewise, don`t overdo it as soon as you feel better. Re woodburners, next best thing to an open fire, IMHO!
Bearcub - I`m glad you`re not `lurgied`, (and not at all `sorry you called in` - I love reading your posts!) but I had assumed you were very busy with other stuff. Your poor Garfy sounds a bit hen-pecked, but I think this is normal while Star is the shy one and the female, just establishing boundaries and stuff.
My DD`s `organisation` relies heavily on her OH and her eldest son Harry, both very domesticated - which is just as well as she`s due to have another baby early December. They know it`s another boy, which has pleased Harry because he says his sisters `do his head in`! (the 2 girls are true Messies)
We`re nipping out to the pub for an hour this afternoon, chicken is cooked for later, and an early night...
    Have a nice Sunday all.
  • Hello
Not posted for quite a while, was ill and nothing much has got done.
Feel very despondent. Have been lurking on and off.

Have got one load of washing done, airers cleared of previous wash, new stuff out. Old stuff on to indoor airers or on hangers. Not sure if there's room in the drawers cupboards so they may well go from hangers to body back to wash pile. Another load in.
Sitting here thinking of the chores and not doing them. Want to go out but can't unless I do some work here first or feel too guilty. Have wasted half my life (or so it feels) putting off what I want to do because I don't get on with other stuff first.

This sounds ridiculous reading back but will keep it here as a reminder to me to just get on with it.

    Happy Sunday.

    Afternoon messies.

Bless you, Emms. :) It sounds as if your DGS has an old head on his young shoulders.

Hi Procrastinator. Sorry to hear you've been ill, and that any get-up-and-go that you had has gone awol. Would the award system work for you, do you think? A list of things to be done, do one or two of those, then award yourself with a treat. If you do quite a few, a trip out could be in order.

Alec e, I hadn't read back, so hadn't realised that you've been poorly, too. I hope you're on the mend now.

Bootiful day today, although had the not unexpected news that a friend from another forum passed away yesterday. :( We all have great memories of her, though, as she had a great sense of humour, and although not all of us had met everyone else, we'd all met Brenda.

Today, I've cleaned the bathroom, and one of the work surfaces in the kitchen; will do the rest and the hob later. I aim to get Mum's birthday card made today, and at least plan one for DD2's birthday - both for next month. They're well ahead, of course, but I must start the C cards soon, or I'll end up in a rush.
  • Procrastinator, your post rings so many bells with me - I`ve spent a lot of my life (and still do!) putting off doing stuff, and beating myself up over it, feeling `inadequate` because of it, and quite frankly GLAD to have been a Working Mum, because it was sort of liberating in a way, it gave me an excuse for myself. I`ve reached the stage now where I do stuff because I WANT to.
I`m actually quite happy doing shopping for the bargains, doing nice meals, and I like washing up! I am glad to be still working, partly because I love my job, but partly because I still need an excuse for myself.
Laundry gets done either in single loads (necessity), or in umpteen loads because I`m In The Mood.
Likewise, cleaning & tidying. I`m naturally untidy, and my efforts tend to run in cycles, so I`m never really on top of it all.
I accept that I probably never will be on top of it all, but I am now less inclined to beat myself up about it. I enjoy the lift I get when part of the house is clean & tidy, and as for the rest, it has to wait for the next `wave` of time/motivation till I tackle it.
Meanwhile, we eat well, and the immediate hygeine needs are covered - just recently including a bit of old Daftie-dog `s incontinence...

Here here, Emms! I took well to motherhood, somewhat unexpectedly, but wasn't so sure about staying at home. As it was, I quite enjoyed it until DD1 was about 3, then I started to 'fidget' - couldn't be doing with the housework, cooking, and mums and toddlers. As it was, I had a lovely neighbour who looked after DD1 for almost 2 hours, while I went off and did a course in basic Italian. It was just enough to keep my brain ticking over, and ensure that I still had a brain!

Piles of carp flying around in my nest or rather out of it - my lovely friend came and did another tip run for me...... what's scary is how much more there to sort through! Anyway, this week's casualties are:

    38 leaking printer cart
    39 unknown cable
40 pair of plastic pink knitting needles - charity shop
    41 Christmas socks - Charity
42 Random fleece dressing gown belt
43 - 44 2 sacks of assorted rubbish to tip
    45 Broken computer screen
    46 frayed cable
    47 Frayed kettle lead
    48 flannels - charity shop
49 old sports holdall - charity
50 bag of paper shredded and recycled
51 Sack of assorted rubbish - tip
52 another random pair of pink knitting needles
53 unwanted oil burner - charity shop
    54 dried out glue pot
55 bag of mixed tea packets - friend

Although its hard to see it from where you're sitting, its easy for the rest of us to see your problem - usually because we've suffered it too!. The problem is the feeling guilty & the putting off what you want to do. Unless the chores are a matter of life and death, you don't have to do them before you enjoy the rest of your life. Go and do the thing you'll enjoy and you might just come back re-invigorated to the job you didn't fancy before you went out. And if you don't, well put it off again - until it does become a matter of life&death!

I've had a surprisingly productive weekend. For the first time in ages I didn't have to go anywhere or do anything and my time was all my own. Which usually means I feel obliged to use the time to visit my grandmothers but as I'm snotty with a cold, I couldn't really do that either. Bedroom was tidied yesterday - but the 3 loads of laundry that I did yesterday are currently spread all over the bed airing off. Kitchen got a good clean (OH did a lot of it but he's not getting the credit because he referred to it as skanky before he did so!) - but now its got the remanants of todays baking session + roast dinner pots all over it. So basically, the house is just as bad as it was on Friday but for a brief spell last night it was lovely! And I've got lots of goodies in the freezer for treats when I don't feel like making anything.

Still managed to put off cleaning the bathroom though :rotfl: Maybe next weekend...
