So no demessing will be happening here but they emptied their loft completely a few weeks ago and they say they have lots of my stuff for me to go through, I'll keep you updated.
Well I'm back from my week away and missed you all like crazy so I did a very important thing this morning, I caught up with this thread :rotfl:Emm-in-a-pickle wrote: »BB - have a nice week with your folks, but don`t be too tempted to bring loads of the loft stuff home with you!
They have completely emptied there loft and in the new yet to be used shed they have piles of stuff for sorting through, 1st pile was general / everybodies to see if I wanted any of it and to help them decide which toys, games, puzzles they should keep for the grandchildren. This took a good 2 days to go through. The 2nd pile was my stuff which took less than a day to go through. I nearly filled the recycling bin with old school and college notes :rotfl:. I have some things to bring back here (OH is collecting them on his way home from working away) but not that much and it includes somethings which I thought were in our loft which I kept meaning to search for and repeatedly put off. The 3rd pile is my sisters stuff which she needs to deal with on her next visit. It felt good to sort the stuff out as well as bin lots of it.
Today apart from catching up here, DW hokey cokey, putting half the washing on the airer, give the shower room a very good clean, including scrubbing the grout, I've not done much. Think I needed a gentle start.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Sounds like you're really pleased with your progress, Gilly. What are DFW and SOA, and what's snowballing, apart from the obvious? I know what CC is, but I've never had one, nor ever will.
We only use a tablecloth when we have company for dinner, Alec e, and not always then. Atm, we're having to keep a 'anti-heat' cloth on the table except thwne we're eating, as the cats keep lying on there. Eventually, I'm hoping they'll learn that it's a no-go area, but I'm not risking my fairly new table.
BB, it sounds like the loft was a bit of a treasure chest in many ways. When we moved here, we brought with us a number of our DDs' possessions, including a fair few toys (a lot of them would be collectibles now eg Sylvanian Families), and LOADS of DD1's books. She'd moved down to the south coast before us, and never got around to completely sorting out which books she wanted to keep. Good luck with the catching up!0 -
When I got rid of the hoard and turned my house into a nice place to live rather than a storage space for the past we made the decision to not keep things "for best" and to use our nice stuff all the time. I like bright fabrics and things so I like having a cloth on - not to mention the fact our table isn't the most beautiful piece of furniture in the house.
With the abbreviations SOA is statement of affairs and DFW is the debt-free wannabe bit of the forum. Snowballing is when you pay minimums on all but one debt, pay that off then roll all of that payment on to the next debt and so on. As the debt gets paid off the snowball rolls and gets bigger and bigger so you end up paying huge chunks off the last debt. Then it's happy debt free times!0 -

I am very pleased with the bits I am doing - it is taking longer than I would like but slow and sure will get there and don't want to do anything which will jeopardise my recovery
DFW - Debt Free Wannabe board
SOA - Statement of Affairs, income, expenses, assets
Snowballing is juggling the figures to get a projected debt free date, but explained much better by Alec-E
CC we have are either life of balance or 0% so not too bad
We have one CC we use for groceries, petrol etc, but that is paid off in full every month without fail.0 -

Thanks for the explanations, both. I'm a chemist (or was), so I'm used to abbreviations, but they had me beat. The debt snowballing scheme sounds really clever.
I can understand perfectly, Alec e, about using things. Unless I know for sure that there are going to be a fair number of times I'm going to use 'best' things, possessions get used. We had to downsize quite drastically when we moved here, so what we have, we use. We have a pretty good table (not really, really expensive, but expensive enough to want to take care of it), but I like the look of the wood so, when there's just the two of us, we don't use a tablecloth. When we have company, though, and the table's likely to be covered in lots of dishes/plates, then it gets covered.
Very wise, gilly, taking care of yourself at the same time as getting things done. When it comes to it, getting you better is the most important 'task' of all.0 -
BC - a chemist, far too intelligent for me. I love numbers and languages but could not get my head round any of the sciences. I fluked passes in CSE Physics and Biology, but Chemistry scared the *** out of me.
:j Today's Flylady task is completed, OH did it last night :j
So I am concentrating on sorting paperwork - it seems a never ending task
Closing unused accounts
Reviewing credit file
Checking for offers
Meter readings
Revising some paperwork for the sports club as trying to get accredited with the governing body - not much to do, but will have to reprint it all once done:mad:
Have a good day all, it is sunny here so will get out for a walk0 -
All the minimum jobs are done for today, not sure what else is going to happen. Might go to the library if the rain stops otherwise another grand day of quilting. Have a good day everyone.0
