Well done on the job messymare :)

Well decorating is 3/4 there in the living room. Still dining room to do too though. We'll take it steadily over the next few weeks.

It means though that absolutely nothing was done yesterday, the kid's had free reign of upstairs in a bid to occupy themselves so you can imagine. Everywhere is in a state and I'm feeling overwhelmed mixed with CBA cos it's Sunday and DH is out fishing.

I have one job I really want to do and that is paint the coffee table I got for free off my friend. It's been sat there in it's shabby primed state for months. I'm going to cart kids off to play tents in their rooms, dog can go find treats in garden and I'm going to get lost in peace and quiet and create some lovely. :) Have an easy day everyone :)

Congrats MM! I'm very happy to hear of your success and it's cheered my rainy day up no end!

Your day sounds lovely fuddle, I remember our childhood rainy day games such as our favourite game of "oo-plonks" which involved standing at the head of the bed, and shouting "Ooooo" as you fall backwards stiff as a board, and plonk onto the mattress.

We also made epic dens, using mum's clothes horses, blankets and cushions. Oh and another superb game was "green ghost" which involved a huge green blanket and one person underneath it... everyone else had to try to avoid them, but if they were caught they joined the person under the blanket, amoeba-stylee, until everyone was caught. That was probably the most excellent game ever (but put the breakables away in the room you're using!!) :D

I have had a nice lie-in, a leisurely breakfast of crumpets, egg and a cooked salami slice (very intense flavour, cheaper than bacon!) and am now getting ready to go and investigate some car boot sales and take in a craft fair at a local stately home.

Hope everyone has a lovely (if rainy) day... take care all!

Edit: welcome wilf55, pull up a dust bunny :hello:

    Woohoo, Messymare

    :T:T:T:T:T

Good for you-you really deserve it :j

Welcome, Wilf :D. Here our best is good enough. Or less than our best is good enough where housework is concerned-we're humans with lives and interests that call more strongly than the hoover.

(Now-where is that cup of tea?)

Gardening again yesterday-my dad used the leftover bricks to lay another border. But the combination of too wet or too hot to garden is taking its toll-weeds (and not the good kind):eek::eek:

I have said to my parents that, when all this is over, we'll have an old-fashioned tea in the garden, with the best china etc etc. :)

My mum asked whether she'd live long enough. I'm starting to wonder whether I will

Pouring down today. Should probably do something. My choices are:

Finish stripping the toy room (just the window area where, embarrassingly, I couldn't figure out how to get the blind off), hoover and leave ready for the plasterer on Thursday.

    Finish the ironing (boooo)...

Nip out to the tip with the surplus rubbish. The non-recycling bin is full, the bins in the house are overflowing, there's a bin bag in the kitchen and it just makes me feel....bleugh...as if there's no point in doing anything. What's worse is that I have no idea whether the bin will be emptied on time after the long weekend. I suppose, if I could fill a bag from the Garage of Doom before I go, that would be another step along that road. And at least there'll be no queues today!!

Potter around the kitchen, cook food that needs using up, sort out mess in storecupboard (children put shopping away, and moaning that they didn't do it right would be a poor way to encourage the effort they've been making recently).

Prepare for my parent and child English course. (Plan outline and design flyer.)

Painting. The bits of old wardrobe in the Garage of Doom included a door, so my dad swapped the wardrobe door with a broken mirror for the spare. Unfortunately, the wardrobe was originally brown and had been repainted. So I now have four white doors-and one brown one. Perhaps I could start a trend??? :rotfl:

    OR

Allow myself a much-needed duvet day. Cat, Kindle, coffee and needlepoint.

    Hmmmmm......;)

Enjoy your weekend, Messies, whatever you're doing! :)

Thank you everyone *gets the drinks in* - it's come at such a good time and really pulled me up as I was starting to reach low places again. I was going to say rock bottom but I've been there, and it's definitely not that bad!

Snook - I hope your dad feels better soon xx

JPS - I love your ideas for games...I might have to try the blanket one with my niece, she'd love it! (might have to try ooh plonk with B ;) )

Took doglet for his jabs this morning. So pleased with him, he's back down to a healthy weight after I put him on a diet (so of course I promptly treated him with a bonio!), the vet said he was in great condition apart from his teeth but that's to be expected with greyhounds. Apparently he'll need a dental but not for a couple of years, so I've got some time to save up for that. He didn't flinch when he had his jab or when she trimmed his nails, I'm so proud of my boy :D

On the messy front I've done nowt so far, wanted to check in here and then I'm going to be a cleaning and clearing powerhouse! Or something. Powerflat? Powerbedsit I think.

    See you all later!

Oh, that's a gooooood book :). I had it in dead tree format years ago, but I lent it to somebody and didn't get it back . As for what I'm reading, I had a bit of a spree on the Amazon Jubilee sale and bought a few 99p history books. I very much recommend the Andrew Marr one-I already have that as a book, and I loved it.

One of the things I love about my Kindle is the free classics-I'm reading Cranford at the moment. The best freebie I've had, though, was Dracula. It was very well written, and I'm afraid it did make me laugh when the men were being terribly manly, while completely failing to notice that the Count was draining the life from the Token Female upstairs.:rotfl:
