My home is a mess

DRIFT is the word, Bearcub...I still haven`t reached the bedroom desk surface, as I intended - I drifted downstairs with am armful of stuff, and noticed the window halfway downstairs. I mean I noticed how BAD it was! So I ended up cleaning it, and wiping the sill clean. Who needs net curtain when you have a snotty cat?
Car had minor stuff, now has a shiny new MOT cert. PHEW!0 -
Hi to thread joiners, always lovely to have more fellow messies!
I'm very tired so reading and running (sorry!)
Had to do the hospital run last weekend after all, so I feel as though I've had no time off, and had so looked forward to playing with my quilting again. Never mind, I'm very much a blessing counter and have quite a few to count, so I'm not going to feel too sorry for myself.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

I really dislike dirty windows, Emms, so I sympathise. Our cat used to leave nose marks all over the windows. Sadly, now she has a growth on her nose, she can't do it anymore. Sad that she has the growth btw, not sad that she doesn't leave marks now.

I have cleaned the bathroom AGAIN (how can OH spread so much toothpaste so far???), and cleaned the kitchen - worktops, and hob and oven doors. Surplus craft materials advertised on Freegle and have three people interested. All other craft materials, that aren't going to be used imminently, have been put away - tidily and suitably filed/boxed. I can actually see most of the floor space in this room now! :j I even managed to do a little bit of gardening.

Hi everyone/ Iv been busy getting the shopping in. Seven warburtons loaves for 20p each as they were todays date. All in the freezer now.
Dog keeping us busy and fit. Well busy, lol.
Dd aged nine was asleep in her bed with a plate on her bed with a opened sweetcorn can!. Had to give her a lecture on safety and clearing her bed before before she gets in it. Im going to have a major clear out of her room again as its beyond a quick tidy.
Iv put a wash on and made the tea and Im going for an early night tonight as I feel a bit off colour. Feeling sorry for myself.
Take care everyone.0 -
Hmm, safety talk definitely needed. Hope you feel better tomorrow, snookey.0

As well as putting washing out this morning I managed to iron three items before going to work. I've got a bit of a pile of ironing at the moment as I didn't get chance to do much at the weekend. I don't fret about the ironing though as I love doing it and therefore know it won't hang around for long. Whenver I've got half an hour to spare on housework, I always end up doing the ironing rather than any other household task even if the dusting or vacuuming is desperately needed and the ironing isn't!
Came home from work and I was grateful that OH had got the washing in but it hadn't dried and he'd just left it in a pile rather than putting it on the airer! So I did that, then cooked the tea and washed up and put half a load in the washing machine before hospital visiting. Came back and made sandwiches for OH to take to work. By this time I didn't want to do anything but watch tv, but as I knew you'd all have your beady eyes on me as promised I took the drawer into the living room and tidied it while I half watched tv. Nothing needed throwing away but I took a few items out and put them away elsewhere. The result is that the drawer is now nice and tidy and shuts properly!
I've got a dr's appointment before work tomorrow morning so there won't be time to do much before I leave the house. I'll just try and wash up the breakfast stuff before I leave.
I've decided that tomorrow evening's task is to clean the plastic washing up drainer and the sink drainer area underneath it as both need it. I'll also take the time to wash the tea stains out of the mugs by using bicarb and a scourer sponge. Unfortunately, I don't have a dish washer to help me. Getting these little tasks done definitely makes you feel better!0 -
Morning Messies!
JPS and Snookey - sorry you`re both sounding under the weather. Snookey, my DGD is a little horror for taking stuff into her room and growing `interesting moulds` in forgotten mugs or dishes. I`ve done no end of scary safety talks at her, she is always very contrite, but it happens again sooner or later!
Footymadgal - I just don`t iron. At all. (Everything is taken out of WM as soon as it stops, shaken out & hung up immediately, no need to iron at all.)
I feel about washing up as you do about ironing though, (no dishwasher here either!) I actually quite like doing it, so generally keep on top of it, and tackle that task first despite maybe other stuff more desperately needs doing.
Re. plastic drainers on draining boards - I chucked mine out some time ago, I`m convinced they`re just a gunk repository! Gunk builds up on them very quickly, so why put nice clean dishes in them at all? Over the years I`ve had steel drainers and a wooden one, but now I`ve decided it`s best without that extra cleaning task. I just wash the draining board, and stack the clean pots on it for a quick drain, then wipe & put away. I also chucked the teatowels out some time ago. I now use the cheap little microfibre cloths (one use only, then they go in the wash) This has stopped the menfolk using (abusing!)teatowels for unspeakable purposes as they did in the past! Tired or puggy-looking microfibre cloths eventually get downgraded into cleaning cloths, in a little basket in the downstairs loo. I`ve done the same thing with the little hand-towels in the downstairs loo - abolished them, replaced with microfibre cloths (one use only then into a little net bag hanging behind the door) These wash & dry quickly, and take up far less space and cost less than proper towels & teatowels. They dry just as well as long as you DON`T use fabric conditioner, that `kills` them!
I`m having a lovely week off (back to work Sunday, a longday) but feeling smug because it`s still only Wednesday. I`ve done quite a lot, and still feel I have time to do more. Off for a leisurely shower/
hairwash/condition now, then will potter in bedroom for a further de-clutter up there while my hair dries, and decide what Great Work to tackle next!

Afternoon messies. I hope poorly messies feel better today, and aren't feeling guilty that they've not done any de-messing.
Emm, great that you're enjoying your week or at least, feeling satisfied with what you've got done. Our old and worn towels become animal towels, either for the piggies or the horses.
Had our monthly trip into town this morning, but more to visit lots of other shops rather than Mr M. Did a remarkably small shop in there, mainly because OH did a fair sized shop in Lidl on Monday. I did get myself some new underwear and socks for nothing, as I had some vouchers.
:)
A plumber's been in to discuss re-fitting our broom cupboard sized bathroom, something we've wanted to have done since we moved in 6 years ago. Have done no de-messy stuff today, except a WM load, and some hung outside. :T0 -
I've cleaned the plastic drainer, sink drainer and removed tea stains from cups so feeling more hygienic! Emm, I had wondered about replacing the plastic drainer with a steel one but it sounds as if it's not the solution. What you do is probably the best thing. I don't let washing up hang around too long but I detest doing it, full stop.
I've got to fill the car up with petrol on the way to work and have hospital visiting after tea and so restricted time again for anything but the necessary chores. The kitchen bin needs emptying so that will get done in the morning. I'll also wash up the breakfast things to make things easier in the evening. Steak for tea which the OH will cook (every little helps), I'll just cook the accompaniaments.
I've drunk some wine tonight and feel too tired now to think about what chores I'll do next, so I'm off to bed. Night night all.0 -
Morning messies from a very foggy IOW.
I sympathise with you, footymadgirl, about the drainer. We have a textured draining board (put in by the previous owners of the house), and general grubbiness just clings to it. It's not easy to clean, either. I called into Poundland yesterday, hoping to find some of that cleaner that so many people on the forum rave about, but they had hardly any household stuff at all, let alone stardrops.
Don't know what I'll be doing after visiting the yard but we're out for a meal with friends tonight, to celebrate a birthday, so no thinking of what to cook!
