My home is a mess

Hi all, welcome to new messy friends. Cat, I feel for you. I was horrible to my Mum when I was a teenager. I was well brought up in a loving family and I was just a cow, no excuse or reason for it. I cringe now when I think how I behaved. If its any comfort Mum and I are best of friends now. It does make you miserable when your kids are horrible to you though. Chin up and keep posting on here, I am terrible for moaning on this thread but it does help!
I seem to be struggling to get on top of things at the moment. I seem to spend a lot of time faffing about and not really achieving anything. I think I need to make a list of jobs that need to be done this week, starting with a trip to the dump. Mind you we are waiting for a hospital appointment for DS1 so that might throw a spanner in the works.
Having a nightmare with DS1 over bedtime and sleep at the moment. I find it really hard and it sounds a bit selfish but I am not a late night person. Its all linked to his illness/depression and there is very little that we can do. Many nights OH comes up to bed and DS is in bed with me reading his book and I am fast asleep! Might go to the library tomorrow and see if we can find any audio books that interest him, that helped once before.0 -
I always go with the policy of
'Only boring women have clean houses'
Doesn't make my house any cleaner but cheers me up when my house is far from immaculate

I'd love to join this thread if that's ok as my house has been a mess for a few months now and I need some motivation to get it sorted. If I think about it I can think of a few excuses as to how it's got like this but I can't think of an excuse to leave it as it is!
I work full-time and my job is going through a very busy and demanding phase right now which doesn't leave me with much energy or enthusiasm to do household chores when I get home. I will therefore probably have to ease myself gently into the challenge this week.
I always feel good if I can fit in a household task before leaving for work. I need to be at work early tomorrow morning so the only job I will set myself is putting some washing out (it's already done and waiting).
The job I'm going to set myself to do tomorrow evening is clearing my letter rack which is bulging. I've also got overspill paperwork sitting on top of a chest of drawers so that will be tackled too. I've got one bill to pay which I'll do online and the rest of the stuff should just need filing or chucking.
Now I've told you about it I'll have to do it!0 -

Hello and waves to all the new joiners :]
Had a weekend of 2 halves - woke up Saturday with throat glands the size of golf balls! DD went to her Dad's but DS stayed at home, DH was home too so they went off for a walk in the morning, I had a doing not alot day. On Sunday DH went fishing, I felt better, we went to my Mums for tea as an Aunt was over, we had a lovely evening, came home and put kiddies to bed, at 11ish DS was crying cos he couldn't get to sleep and he felt poorly so I sat in his room with him till he fell asleep at 12.45. He's home today and I'm houseworking as DD has "lost" her school locker key - I've seen it somewhere but can't think where so a tidy up is in order.
Cat - go on strike - your DD is old enough to be looking after herself and you not being waited in hand and foot, be tough hun, we're all here for you
Helen xProjects made for craft fair - 40
1st fair on 13/4/14 :j0 -
Afternoon messies, and welcome to new posters!

I hope you and ds are feeling a lot better today, Helen. Had your DS hadn't picked up what you had?
Footymadgal, that's exactly the attitude that got me clearing up, telling the folk on here what I intended to do. found it works a treat - as if someone's keeping an eye on me.
Finished sorting all the craft stuff, and I 'just' need to put everything back in the cupboard now. Atm, I can hardly move in this room without falling over or stepping on something.0 -
Hi Messies - I did post earlier but lost it!
Cat - don`t apologise love, you rage & howl here as much as you need to, but do put your foot down with DD & KEEP it down! You said you`d kicked her out before & she stayed at your mum`s. Could your mum take her in again, even just short-term, and maybe get some sense through to her? Have you talked deeply to your mum about this, and the state DD`s getting you into?
Welcome, new Messies, just shift some carp & find a seat!
HUGS(()) Helen & YL (and anyone else poorly or dealing with poorlies at home.
I`ve been a bit of a FlyMessy today...Emm blushes...I was up early, washed bedding & got it all line dried (except a duvet that went to launderette, and dried there too - cheating?)
Took a binbag upstairs & filled it with carp, to fill dustbin before it got emptied.
Cleaned kitchen again, and assembled electric wok (Xmas pressie, didn`t have room for it in kitchen till now!) Doing a stir-fry and some whoopsied duck breasts tonight, to try it out.
Hoovered LR, shaken woolly rugs, and washed them as well.
Stopped for a coffee now, and thinking what to tackle next....
Still thinking...think I need another coffee.0 -
Hello ladies and gents just popped with a bit of advice.
I was getting very very down with having to continually tidy up after everybody in the house (including DH) so we now have 'tidy up time' i know it sounds very infantile but it works.
Basically at 6.30 before i get the babies bottle and her ready for bed everyone has to tidy their own stuff up, this includes bedrooms, anything left in the wrong place by 7 o'clock goes in the bin (it is good to have a stooge for this bit i got DH to leave his worn out cap he wears but is ready for the bin out and i made a big deal of throwing it awy to his 'horror'.)
So far 2 weeks in i haven't had to bin anything but i am prepared to do so!
The difference has been fab!I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -
i work full time (have a minor medical prob which can leave me exhausted),have 3 kids(although old enough to sort themselves out now) and 2 dogs ,i keep a fairly clean and tidy home by having 1 or 2 jobs a day, monday- dust ;tuesday-hoover upstairs; wednesday bins out and wash hard floors; thursday-clean bathrooms and toilets,friday-wash /wipe kitchen sides and doors, weekend, ironing, change beds and clean out animals.hoover downstairs approx every other day ,jobs like washing nets and windows etc i get done every couple of months as time allows, i find it easier doing a job a night that way i dont feel quilty leaving the rest for another day!0

You traitor, Emms!
:T Lucky you, having duck. I love it, but it's usually a treat when we go out to eat.
Hello, pukkamum - fantastic name btw. Great advice; I try to do a similar thing most of the time. Sometimes my intentions go a bit awry - which probably goes for most of us on here, which is why we're here, I guess.
Can't compete with Emms (nor would I wish to), but I've made some bread, done a WM load, and cleared away some stuff from the spare room. I really wanted to get the washing outside and do some gardening, but sadly, the weather's been a bit iffy.0
