My home is a mess

My mission for this weekend is to tackle the mountain of clothes in the ironing basket, so I can get to the surfaces underneath to dust. I don't promise to iron said clothes mind, just do something more productive with them than leave them in the ironing basket for months on end!
I must also go and find a wool shop to pick up some wool to start knitting again. I've decided the half-completed projects can wait another 2 years while I go all OS and start making presents to save a few pennies. My niece will be 3 in April and she loves Peppa Pig so I've found me a pattern to knit one, just need to get some wool for it. And if I can't finish it between now and April I really need to get a grip!0 -
Hi Messies - welcome to the new people
Fed up - lost my purse Tuesday night. And tried to tell DD1 tonight that I'd had enough of her dossing and she was going to have to make some kind of contribution - and that any other parent would have been nagging her daily about it, not once a month like me. Her response? "**** off, you always make a situation worse. I'm not talking to you".
I am wound up to hell inside but trying to keep a lid on it. Told her she'd better find somewhere else to live, but I can't bodily throw her out so I guess I'll just have to stop what I do for her, not a lot but cooking and stuff
hugs all xxx0 -
Hi sonastin. I'm intrigued - what's more productive than ironing clothes that need ironing? I'd like to know, just in case I'm in a similar situation.
Being a keen knitter can be very useful for making prezzies. Not a knitter myself. Not that I can't knit, in fact I was a pretty fair knitter, just not overly interested. Not sure that I could make anything of any use for a prezzie, but I do make pretty good cards, I think.
How do I post a photo? Ah, think I've found it. Card made as a 'commission' for a hospital chaplain who apparently loves Dr Who. The doors open to show characters from the programmes.
Oh Cat! <hugs> You really don't need that, do you? How old is DD1? You could be right, not cooking or doing her washing could be the only way. My sister had a similar problem with her DS1 - awful.0 -
fabulous card bearcub!:T
She'll be 19 in April, too old for this carp!!!0 -
Bearcub - I'm thinking that things that aren't particularly creased and/or everyday clothes (i.e. stuff I don't wear when I going somewhere special and want to look nice) can go straight in the drawers. I used to hang everything up so it all got ironed but now we're a bit limited on hanging space so most stuff goes on shelves or in drawers. I've found that when I iron and then fold a) I'm not very good at folding properly and b) the fold creases look more dishevelled than not ironed at all. So I'm resolved to just putting that stuff away. The smart stuff might get ironed and then hung up, or it might get a special "needs ironing just before I go out" drawer. Not that we ever go out anywhere that warrants nice clothes anymore anyway! Great card BTW. Can't do that sort of crafty stuff - limited to knitting only!
Cat - treat DD1 as she is treating you. If she doesn't want to help out, don't give her any help. I bet you'll be surprised just how much you do actually do for her. And she'll be absolutely astounded when it stops being done! I know I can be really petty but I would actually go as far as taking her bedroom door off (if she has her own room). If she isn't paying rent or contributing to keeping a roof over her head, she doesn't deserve any private space of her own. But that's just my mean streak coming out! You know just how bad the problem is and what she is/isn't doing and what she should be doing. Just make sure you let her know just what is done for her.0 -
Thank you, Cat. I forgot to say that it's A4 sized.
Hmm, 19 is about time she was growing out of this sort of attitude, rather than growing into it. I'd love to give you some advice, but I've never had this sort of problem. As I said earlier, our DD1 was very biddable. Our DD2 did give us a lot of problems during her second year of A-levels, but it was all due to depression - which went on for 10 years. Has this situation been building up?
I understand now, sonastin. I remember doing much the same thing when DDs were at home. Now there's only the two of us, there's not much washing/ironing anyway.0 -
Hugs Cat, sorry you're having problems with DD.
Well, my house is very messy, complete with washing up not done! I've also had a total non-MSE evening after finding myself in an M&S food hall on the way home from work- probably would have been cheaper to buy a takeaway. That's also totally blown the healthier eating I've been trying to do. Oh well!
I've also managed to lose something, not as important as a purse but I'm still really worried and hope it shows up.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

I hope whatever it is, turns up soon, as it's obviously worrying you.

Cat kick her up the bum. As people have said stop doing her meals, washing ect until she gives you the respect you deserve.
Iv done two loads of washing, put a moutain of washing away, walked the pooch, mopped and cleaned our bedroom, changed our bedding. Will try to do the rest of my list tommorrow.
Iv also washed my oh feet as they stink. I had to as he would of left them until going to bed. Blinkin things were putrid. Put me off watching the tv.
JP hope whatever it is turns up.0 -
Thanks guys, I think I know where I left it now, so will check on Monday! I've now done the washing up, but the manky kitchen floor remains unwashed... it's on my list for today.
The bird feeders have been filled, the washing machine is on and I've just had breakfast. I need to make biscotti for breakfasts next week (I make a sort-of-healthy version with added oatbran) and do a couple more loads of washing, but also want to spend some time playing with quilting and planning a big project - handmade covers for my sofa and armchair.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.
