I'm sorry to hear things are getting both you and your mum down, Buffy. Is it work that's stopping you getting de-messying done, or 'just' apathy? Have you got nothing done during the school hols?

It's been a mixed day here, as it was sunny and misty this morning, then started to pour late afternoon, and still is. Managed to get some towels washed and outside, and almost dry. Gave the roses some fertiliser and, while climbing on a low wall to reach the biggest of them, lost my balanced, stepped backwards, and wrenched my back. It's not too bad atm, but I'm wondering how it'll feel in the morning. :( Have half-made a card, to join another half-made one. Vacuumed the house and celaned the bathroom yesterday, so things aren't too bad.

If you don't have a Wilko's, Bearcub, The Works are very good for Arts and Crafts and they do mail order. I used to get all my paints, palettes and brushes from them.

We do have a Works store in town, McC, although town's 12 miles away. I used to buy cardmaking materials at the Portsmouth branch when I was visiting DD1 but they, like the Island branch, only seem to be selling art materials now. Shame, as I bought some lovely different materials in there. Will have a look at their website, thanks. I do have my favourite online craft websites, though, and one in particular has very good prices on paper and card. One of the things I want to introduce to people is that it's possible to use patterned wrapping paper and pictures from old greetings cards on new cards, and not always necessary to buy 'special' materials. Very MSE, really. :)

A real spring-like day today, although not always sunny. Went into town for a big shop this morning, but went nowhere else but Mr M's except to exchange an item I'd ordered online. Have folded the towels I washed yesterday, and finished one card. Have cleaned bathroom, and swept kitchen floor. Just been outside to shuffle some pots around, so we can see the flowers that are out now, and now will go and wash the kitchen floor before the cats wake up!
  • Hi Messies!
I`m home again after my abdominal `de-clutter` on Thursday, apparently all went well. They actually let me out on Monday afternoon, but I`ve been too uncomfy to sit here & type. I`m going stir crazy already, and it`s only been a few days. The Menfolk are being very good, won`t let me do anything and are coping well with my delegating....it`s killing me not cooking though! AND the place was tidy & clean when I got home! (They say now I`m home it`s me that`s untidied the place - probably true!) I`m not very agile but able to do my own dressings & anti-clot injections if someone holds a mirror for me. And the Nora Batty elastic socks are the worst garment EVER invented. I`ve ordered veg from farmshop (delivery tomorrow night). OH cooked ham in apple juice & is WELL impressed with himself, starting to realise I`m not really a rocket scientist....
It`s nice to be home though, even if I am `grounded`.
    Will catch up tomorrow. x

Hello Emms!! :jGood to see you back, and good to know all went well. Easy for me to say, but take it slowly, won't you, even when you feel you couild tidy the world! No, sorry, that's not quite you, is it? But you know what I mean. Ah, your OH has caught on that you're not quite the miracle worker he thought you were. You win some, you lose some, I guess. ;)

Great to see you back Emm. I wonder if any of your colleagues watched the op?!

I must admit I used a lot of scrap materials on my cards Bearcub, but I was lucky and had access to a scrapstore for a few years. I used the oval cut-outs from a photographer's card frames for Easter Egg cards, and also as backgrounds for decoupage - we usually did these around Christmas and popped on a mini calendar with hanging ribbon, so that Club members could give them as gifts.

Bought a steam mop today. Not the one from Aldi - they all went by 8.15. Annoyed with myself at not being there for 8.00. On the other hand, I did get a nice one from Mr T's and used a money off voucher too.
Plus reviews on this one are good.

Also moved a bookcase so that the ugly back of it is no longer partially visible through our huge lounge window. It does mean that people looking in see a bit more of the lounge... blinds kept only partially open!

  • Hi Messies. Thanks all for the kind words, I`m taking everything slowly at the mo - no choice in the matter. I am improving daily but I`m impatient (typical of nurses as patients!) Mcculloch, none of my present colleagues would have been there as I work on a medical ward, but an ex-colleague was in anaesthetics, and 2 nurses on the gynae ward had been students on my ward a few years ago. They were all fantastic, Bless `em!
Anyway, onward & upward - slowly!
OH is making a green Thai curry tonight. (That`ll REALLY blow my kitchen goddess image!!!) and DGD is in residence this weekend, is going to make pizza for herself and DS. From scratch, of course!!
I`ve had a good read here, but my concentration wanders a bit...so please forgive any omissions while I try to catch up...
