My home is a mess

Hello sandyann. I can imagine that two so young could make a bit of a mess! There are only me and OH here, but our bungalow is tiny, which should make it fairly easy to keep clean, but difficult to keep uncluttered. I say 'failry easy to keep clean', because we have horses, and horses mean mud - certainly at this time of year - hay and shavings. I have quite a few hobbies, too, so I tend to have lots o boxes of 'stuff' around.0

:jI am sitting here in my lovely new lounge enjoying the space and the warmth and the tidiness. :j
If I wander out through the cluttered kitchen to the "clean" hall, it looks like a bomb went off in a mattress factory :rotfl:We pulled all of the furniture out of the garage at weekend even though we haven't made space in the study (old lounge) for the spare beds yet, so mattresses currently live in the hall! And you can only access the lounge from the kitchen because the main hall is still a building site and blocked by polythene. Crossing that threshold gives a whole new meaning to the word cluttered - anyone else got half a dozen breeze blocks, a bag of plaster and a sheet of foam insulation cluttering their hall?
But none of that matters because we have a shiny new lounge!
Oh, and the bathroom still hasn't been cleaned. How long until it starts cleaning itself? :rotfl:0 -
Things are slowly coming together, then, sonastin. I'm so pleased for you because you have at least a bolt hole now. No, I can honestly say that we don't have anything in our hall, because our 'hall' is about four foot square, and even one of the cats sitting in it blocks access between the two bedrooms, the bathroom and the lounge. :rotfl:
As for cleaning the bathroom, I've got into the habit of cleaning ours in the morning after I've had a wash or shower. I always clean the basin and loo then, even if I have to leave the shower until later. We don't have a bath, just a very large shower.0 -
Bearcub-pets and a gleaming minimalist home just don't go together do they? My gran used to have a plaque in her kitchen which said 'My home is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy'. Her home was always spotless but always lived in and welcoming. I try to replicate that iny own home- not always easy!
To all the lovely messies out there, one thought for today I saw on a fridge magnet 'Dull women have immaculate houses'0 -
I do the same as you bearcub. We squeegee the tiles and shower screen when we've done it and I wipe the sink when I've used it every morning. I do the floor whenever I hoover upstairs and I swish the loo every day. That means I only have to make an effort to clean the tiles etc every so often.
Today I need to clean the bunny pen. DH has done the washing up, I've made the bed and had a quick tidy upstairs, put laundry away, put a load on and done some dusting. Going to have a cuppa, write the shopping list and a browse for a while then I'll find something else to do.
Have a good day everyone.0 -
Talking of fridge magnets, I have one that says something along the lines of "Both of us can't look good at the same time. It's either me or the house". Some days I would settle for just one of us looking good - folks at work must think my house is immaculate because most days I show up looking like a scarecrow!
The bathroom is definitely my nemesis. Every morning I think about cleaning it after my shower but never to the point of actually doing it. I brush my teeth staring at the patch of toothpaste OH has managed to splatter up the wall but I don't pick up the cloth to wipe it off. This weekend IT WILL BE DONE. I promise!0 -
My fridge magnet says "My house was clean last week, sorry you missed it."0

Afternoon Messies.
No, sandyann, pets and clean homes don't go together, unless you have a very large home, and limit where the pets go. Of course, we don't actually keep the horses here - they're about 4 miles away - but they definitely make their presence felt! Even the guinea pigs' shavings get indoors, and the cats tend to drop food on the kitchen floor. Wouldn't be without any of them, though.
Come on, sonastin, you CAN clean the bathroom. And you have an OH who spreads toothpaste liberally, too? Great, isn't it? How do they do it?rosalie-lavender wrote: »My fridge magnet says "My house was clean last week, sorry you missed it."
Today, I've vacuumed through our huge mansion, and also been out in the back garden to pick up canes that have been moved from their allotted places, presumably by the wind, and I've cleared some dead stems. I've put away dry washing, and will be re-loading the WM, and washing the kitchen floor when OH goes out to the horses.

Finally we have some sunshine here! Felt motivated and dusted the pine dresser (and the large collection of blue and white china). Have also cleaned the bathroom floor. Also did some pottering in the veg path and dug in some more horsey poo...0

Not only that, but he is adamant that it must be me because he's "always really careful". Oh, well that's OK then. Except that he's right handed, I'm left handed, and to get toothpaste where he manages to while holding the toothbrush in my left hand (as I always do), I'd have to be standing on my head or possibly balanced on top of the mirror over the sink :rotfl: I pointed that out to him and he accepted responsbility... once0
