Hi
My old PAYG phone has been a little unreliable recently so I'm thinking about changing. I was planning to get another PAYG as I'm not a big user.
However carphone warehouse are doing the HTC Wildfire for £12 per month. This gets me 200 minutes calls, 200 texts and unlimited internet on the talkmobile network.

I think I can also get £55 cash back through Quidco.
I don't really need a Smart phone but this seems like a good deal to me and not much more expensive than buying a PAYG and then having to buy top ups so I'm very tempted but looking for other views ??
Is this a good deal ???
Thanks

Old mobile - too expensive a deal.0

Does this really make any difference to a person who does not "really need a Smart phon"? Is it really worth paying through the nose for the newest handsets?Old mobile
@OP:
The best PAYG (unlocked) price for this phone I know is £130+£10 (-£50 quidco).
Compare this to the best PAYG (or 1-month rolling contracts) prices of the airtime you need and make your mind if it is worth buying a long-time contract.0 -

OP asked an opinion and I gave mine!
HTC Wildfire S is out with a newer OS on it. And I know there are cheaper deals out there than paying £12x24months - £55.0 -
All I can say is, I use a Wildfire, and I think it is brilliant. Yes, I use it for the internet, facebook, email etc with no bother at all. The only downside is, don't have too many apps running, or you will find yourself charging the battery every five minutes.
FTR, I bought mine from Argos as a PAYG on 3 £189 including £10 top up.0 -
I got the Wildfire too - costing me £70 for a 18 month contract :-)
But it is with cashback deal - so not to everyone's taste.0 -
Hi
Where have you seen a cheaper deal than this ? Or £12 per month for something better ?
I'm totally new at this so any advice or suggestions appreciated !
Thanks0 -
Yeah if you will get HTC Wildfire s than why go for old, Even you will have lots of new phones in next month with better OS and Better features like Motorola Atrix(dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor), Sony ericsson play(Playstation certified Android smart phone), samsung galaxy s2(thinnest mobile phone in the world), blackberry playbook etc...Old mobile - too expensive a deal.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Strange logic...Yeah if you will get HTC Wildfire s than why go for old,... you will have... better OS... dual-core... thinnest
Why buy 1 y.o. VW Polo if a brand new one is available in the same garage and there is a BMW dealer nearby? Especially if you drive 10 miles a week like the OP?
Why buy 2 bed terraced house if there are 4 bed detached on sale nearby?

Hi
Thanks for all your comments.
I know there are better smart phones around with a better spec etc but realistically I don't really need a smart phone I don't facebook etc and I will continue to use a PC to do most of my internet browsing etc. So I can't justify £20 + per month.
I'm interested because I think there a few apps that I would use out and about but don't need the latest, fastest etc etc.
This one works out at just under £10 per month with cashback, what I'd probably pay for topups etc and thats before I've bought the phone if I went down the PAYG route.
Also if I did go down the PAYG route I wouldn't get a SMART phone because I think it would be too expensive to run PAYG
Thanks for pointing out I could get a cheaper deal if I go to a retailer offering a cashback deal but after reading Martin's info on this I've chosen not to. I know what I'm like at remembering to do things at a perticular time and I know I'll forget and it'll end up costing me more.
Thanks for your help

My parents are both currently on Pay as you Go with pretty basic phones, and now want to go onto a contract with a new phone - this deal looks to be perfect for them and for what they want.
Sooty&Sweep - how did you get on with cash-back, was that via Quidco or Topcashback? I saw they had so many different amounts depending on contract and was a tad confused myself.
Thanks.Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world!
