Newcastle bldg socy 4.4% gross/aer 5-year isa

Northern Rock BS may well have closed their 5-year deal, but Newcastle BS also have their Premier ISA paying the better rate of 4.4% Gross/AER fixed for 5 years. There is also the withdrawal option, for loss of 120 days interest on the amount withdrawn.

It looks like a great rate with a 6 monnth-notice! or is there any catch?

Personally I pefer the Coventry deal paying 5% yearly with a 120 day loss of inteest to close. If you are looking for a decent yearly rate every year and have no intention of using the funds I think the Coventry is the best deal.

thanks it is definitely a better deal, but COventry's one is an ISA account, while the NEwcastle is a normal saving account (despite the title of the post)

Don't know where you are looking, but both are available as FRISAs, according to their websites (albeit the Coventry one does not permit ISA transfers):

Birmingham Midshires also offers 5% for its 5 year FRISA, which accepts ISA transfers, but penalties for early access are significantly higher.

Lots of 5 year non-ISA fixed rates offering higher AER (up to 5.05%) but you need to check penalties.

To which account are you referring?

The Newcastle FRISA & Bond have the same condition (number 5):

After placing your Investment in the Account you may make further deposits while the Account is a current issue. The Account is a limited issue and may be withdrawn at any time.
