We're on a mission!

Right, me and OH are on a mission!

After deciding to stay put at his dads house to help him out (and we dont really want the responsibility of running a house yet), we have decided to throw a good portion of our spare money into it and make it somewhere nice to live lol

A LOT needs doing, the list so far is:

Garden - panel fencing needed along one side, other fences need strengthening with more chain link. Skip needed and new gate needed.

Living room - new carpet needed, needs replastering and a lick of paint.

Back room - new laminate or tile flooring needed, & replastering and painting.

Kitchen - new worktop along 1 side & new cupboards. Tiling needs to be finished, possible new floor tiles & need to buy a cooker (we dont have one)

Hallway - needs replastering and floor tiles laid, & painting

Stairs & landing - possible replastering, painting and a carpet (bare floorboards atm

Downstairs loo - painting and floor tiles.

This is a hell of a lot of work & is gunna cost a bit, but the house really is a state atm, its embarrasing to have anyone round :o Our living room carpet is over 20 years old!!

We're gunna try and be as mse as possible while doing it properly, my dad is a labourer and specialises in plastering, so will do that on the cheap for us ;)

We're starting with the garden, as now the warmer weather is here we want to be able to leave the door open and let the dogs come and go as they like, but its not secure atm. So on Sunday i'm gunna get out there and start work on it ready for the new fence at the end of the month!

Very excited to get started, will keep this thread updated with our progress :)

Any tips and advice always appreciated ;)

    Hi,
Homebase are doing 3 for 2 on all Crown standard paint.
    I think £10 a pot.
Or, as some paints are expensive and I have done loads of times, buy the biggest pot of white emulsion (Value big pot is not good, I suggest the next one up) and add how many tester pots of the colour you want and mix yourself, a lot cheaper in my opinion.
Also for flooring, 99p store do 4 pk of floor tiles for 99p.
Honestly, they are brilliant and have used them in all my rooms.

Homebase do wall tiles here very cheap.
Don't know how good they are but if your on a budget then?

If I see anything else...I'll post.

    Hope this helps!:)

thanks for this, we have decided to go with a dark carpet in the living room and stairs/landing ( wont show up dirt as easily is the plan ;))

Everywhere else will be tiled, preferably darkish tiles, except maybe the back room, which currently is laminated but this needs replacing, cant decide on laminate or tiles in there, not carpet as it leads into the garden

Walls are all to be neutral coloured

    Hi,
Good choice about dark carpet esp in living room with drinks etc being spilt.:T
Tiles & laminate are so much more easier to clean.
Sweep and a mop, all shiny again (Have 2 under 5's):o

Like I said, if I see anything else, I know where to post:)

    Good luck with your mission.:)

When we moved into this house, one of the first rooms we did was the kitchen. That way at least we could prepare a meal while we did the rest. :)

Best of luck with your mission!

Just do one room at a time until its finished, then you can see progress. Trying to do loads of jobs at once means that lots of things get left out.

    toilet

    hallway

    stairs and landing

I don't know about other people, but I for one, would be eternally grateful, if you would stop using that ridiculous word "gunna" when you mean "going to". It's not smart or trendy and it just shows a lazy disregard for the English language.
I can afford anything that I want.

OK I'm going to get rocks for this but I find this "mission" rather distasteful. Here we have someone who apparently won't take responsbility for having their own property but is quite happy to take advantage of someone who does and who's idea of helping the old boy out is to to completely redesign it to suit their own requirements rather than his.

Well thats how the lead post reads to me. I hope I've got it wrong TBH.

    Cheers
