I use the block out of taste preference. I've just had too many dissapointing tins of coconut milk that have developed a nasty, metallic ''off'' taste and it ruins the dish. Block coconut is versatile and reliable.

don't forget that if you use maggi coconut powder it's made by nestle, just in case anyone is boycotting nestle
for anyone doing a boycott, Chinese supermarkets usually stock other brands of coconut milk powder :)

I use a Chinese wholesaler and, given that I eat a huge amount of thai curries, I buy a case of it at a time for 54p per can. You can get cheaper soy sauce, hoisin, chilli sauce, oils and white vinegar in industrial quantities, all of which work out far cheaper than the supermarkets.

Waitrose wanted £1.99 for their 'organic' coconut milk. Robbing bastewards.
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....
