Anybody had any issues with OneCall Insurance?

 Just received a letter today from my new car insurance 'OneCall' saying they have to add extra charges onto my policy because I needed to change some details....but i don't see how they can justify £55 in charges!!! I checked out their reviews & just wish I had read those before taking out my policy....Take my advice & stay clear & buy your policy with somebody else.

Interesting company Onecall. They did come out cheapest for me when doing comparisons, however decided to give them a miss given some of the feedback i've found. The major catch seems to be £55 for making any amendment to your details (address etc). Compare this to more reasonable £15 admin fee my current insurer Prudential charged when changing car.

There's also some very suspect 'good' reviews been posted on various interweb sites. They all seem to follow the same format of naming an adviser (!).

Not very imaginative by whoever was employed to post them ! :rotfl:
  • Last year i set up a direct debit with one call ( doncaster) no big thing i thught. How wrong could i be, i could not contact one call to let them know i would no longer be with them after insurance ran out, but as i had not signed anything i thought no problem, i cancelled direct debit and thought thatws that. I took out new insurance with octogan but when i contacted one call for proof of ncd, i was told because i had paid by direct debit last year they had auto-renewed and not only that had set up a new direct debit on mybehalf for insurance i did not want, require or ask for. Now they won't let me have proof of ncd so my new insurer is threatening to cancel my new insurance, which i paid for in full. Please please keep away from one-call they are robbing gits. What if i had been killed in a car crash shortly before renewal, they would be billing my widow for car insurance for a car that could of been a write-off and setting up a direct debit from a dead man's account, this system of auto-renewing must on all levels be wrong, don't you all agree.
  • Mr K is so right about the reviews of OneCall on Review centre. They were so obviously made up I searched google and found this thread amongst others. Why do they feel the need to make stuff up:think:

One Call = Misery! I was with them last year, everything was fine initially, but then I had to claim for a non fault accident. They are quite literally the worse insurance company Ive dealt with in 20 years of insurance. It took 7 weeks for them to even process my claim and that was with regular chasing, they are appalling. They may be cheap but there is a reason why!
  • I cancelled my insurance with them after a month and one day, changed cars and the cheap quote of £180 online went up to £309 going from a 1400 fiesta ghia to a 1600 mini clubman. I said nope want to cancel which I did that was 3 MONTHS AGO they still have not refunded me, and I have told them if I do not have the money back in my account by 5pm today I am reporting them to the ombudsman.

I have tolerated One Call now for about 5 years. My Wife as well.
To be fair I have always managed to get "fees" for changes reduced when being nice on the phone to them.
It is particularly handy when at the same time you can point out a change required that is because of an insignificant typo at their end. (Ie on latest renewal they had typed Aug instead of July as date of 1st mileometer read. I will save this error for any future change I require, or charge them £55 to alert them :) ).
I also had no issues with their handling of a claim when a mini-bus drove into the back of my parked car. The hire-car company that were used were a bit naughty but thats another story.
My main bug with One Call is at renewal point and I never avoid the "penalty".
They always want £25 admin as part of renewal. I always search for a new policy. It is usually still one call who come up tops but a fair bit lower.
Unfortunately when "cancelling" the renewal and going with the "new" policy they put it through as a renewal anyway. This does save the hassle of getting "no claims proof" from One call to supply to one call. However it means they charge the £25 renewal no matter what stunt I try and pull.
To be fair as a broker I suppose they need some sort of compensation at renewal point.
  • Whatever you do don't get involved with this company. They are after us for £55 for cancelling our insurance and not letting them know yet we have paperwork to show we got in touch with the people we got the insurance through originally. They certainly seem to like the figure £55 looking at a lot of these letters. We are just going to write a complaints letter and if that fails we will try the Ombudsman. No wonder these insurance companies are rolling in it.
  • Wish we had read through all your reviews before agreeing to go with one call, picked them from a comparison website due to the price, but never again, we have now cancelled our car insurance with them this week due to adding costs on top of of our original quote, only with them for 8 days, but its possible the longest 8 days ever, paid in full but now trying to get a refund which we believe can take up to 6 weeks! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, pay a little extra a go with a more reputable insurance company.
  • Totally agree with all comments I am still trying to gain a refund where they have debited my card for both house and card insurance by way of "auto renewal" for insurance policies I do not want. I did NOT receive any documentation through the post and have quite blatantly been called a liar by their staff.

It now transpires that they have done this two years running on my car insurance when I have had decent insurance - with no problems with Aviva. They are actually charging me for a car that I no longer own and despite giving full proof that I am insured elsewhere and on a totally different vehicle they still will not refund the monies.

They are an absolute shambles their staff have no idea what they are on about and you cannot get to speak to a manager. Please avoid this company at all costs. Also ensure that you advise them that you do not wish to renew as this is apparently in the small print and if you don't they just continue to take your money

With regard to the house policy renewal I now longer live in the property but I can assure you that no renewals have been sent as I have mail forwarding to my new address - they took the premium from my card 4 days early and when I called on a sunday to try and resolve this issue they didn't answer the phone on two occasions for over 45 minutes of holding then tell me that there will be a time on risk charge of £28.00 for a property I don't live in - they also said that if I could prove cover elsewhere they may review this case but as I not aware of a legal requirement to insure a property surely this cannot be right.

I will continue to fight on with this motley crew but please please just be aware that they are an unprofessional bunch.
