  • I completely agree with Queenie. My OH and I have already agreed that if when we have kids, we feel they are old enough to deal with a book we will let them read it.

Also, I think that although teachers do need to disipline, to go completely against the parent is a bit far. I think the teacher should have discussed this with you first, before enforcing her opinions on your son.

Let us know how you get on with this as I have a nasty feeling this teacher will not let things drop.

    Will do, elona ;)

May I just thank everyone for their opinions - even those who's points of view vary from my own, or were kindly offered as an alternative point of view becasue "they can"! (I sometimes *need* to hear another perspective, either to make me question my own thinking into a refreshing newer path, or perhaps, to endorse why I think/feel the way I do: very healthy :D )

Queenie, although I haven't posted, I've been reading this thread with interest.

I just wanted to say that it's nice to see someone who is so open to other's opinions regardless of whether they concur with their own or not. Sometimes in our world of complaints and negativity, we forget to pay credit to the more positive aspects.

So, all credit to you and more power to your typing fingers, lol.

(This reminds me of a story I read about a man who was followed round a roundabout and down several roads by a Police car. After some time he was eventually pulled over but he couldn't understand why. Turns out that the Police had been having a bad day with speeders and other problem drivers and when they saw this man driving perfectly, they just wanted to pull him over to say well done.) :)

When I heard this story - after the police had complimented the man on driving carefully - he replied "Thanks offisher - when you are as drunk as I am you have to be !" :):):)

    Naive? It would appear so.

Child? I wish! I'm at the 'lie about your age' stage. ;)

Has teacher still "got her knickers in a twist" or has reason prevailed?

I've been summoned to see the Head later this week :o

I did have a phone conversation with the teacher concerned but it deteriorated somewhat when (having taken on board all of her points of view!) she wasn't quite as understanding when I respectfully requested that when it came to issues such as these, perhaps she would give *me* call in preference to speaking to my son about it. She also discussed it with: the Head, the Literacy teacher and the head of the literacy department! Pity really, a quick phone call to me, a brief note (?) and it wouldn't have even got this far - bearing in mind that he hasn't had that book at school since anyway and this is blowing up out of all proportion!

So, it's off to see the Head on Thursday. I might not be around the boards later that day - methinks I could be subjected to a detention.
