mixed responses on here - so thought I'd ask - some people seem to say their "reloads" from their bank takes 1-3 days to appear in their globe account - others say "overnight" - does it depend which bank you bank with? I know my bank does "faster payments" when I pay standing orders - so would this also presumably work for the Globe card?

    Many thanks
  • My bank has been clear, any purchase of foreign currency will be charged a %. The problem is I cant find out whether Travelex will proccess this as buying foreign currency or a straightforward purchase. As I said above Caxtonfx has told me clearly that it will be processed as a purchase (an d a friend has also corroborated this), then they convert into the currency. What led me to this doubt is that when you come to purchase the Travelex card it says your bank may charge you, my bank say only if it is purchasing foreign currency, Travelex then cant or wont tell me how they process it, they keep referring me back to my bank. So I am unsure which is the case, I wish someone could tell me from experience which it is. Eventually I will just buy both (for minimum purchase amount) and see what happens, at the end of the day it is only going to be £1.50

Hi - long time since you wrote this - but how did you get on with being charged or not charged for loading your travelex cash passport card via your bank?

I have just purchased a Cash Passport Globe card - loaded it with £100 sterling - via my debit card - check my bank statement today and am "horrified" (extremely surprised) to find I was charged £2. I have a cooperative cashminder account - according to their t&cs, the following apply:

Cash withdrawals at VISA dispensers or over the counter at a bank displaying the VISA
sign. This includes the purchase of foreign currency or travellers’ cheques
2% of value of withdrawal or £2
    (whichever is the greater)

I obviously did not withdraw cash over the counter - and "neither did I purchase foreign currency" -

I am not sure if this charge would also apply if I topped up via online banking - I presume so as the above does not mention "debit card"

Can anyone advise as to whether other banks also make this charge?
  • found this on the internet -

I guess the question is whether "loading money (in sterling) onto a cash passport globe card" is "buying foreign currency"??

does anyone have any experience of this please - and any way of convincing the bank it is not???

Ask them to see the T&Cs that cover your situation. I can find nothing that specifically refers to this... unlike some of the other banks that make a surcharge.

Some banks charge. Some don't. I can only say from personal experience that HSBC don't.

Whether you think it's worth getting angry and making a complaint over two quid is up to you. By using the card you will be saving much more than £2.

A quick query on the practicalities of the Travelex cash passport globe - if I order it to pick up at the airport I assume that it is activated when they give it to me. How do I get the PIN? Is it handed to me in a sealed envelope or do I choose it and enter it in a PIN pad?
  • I collected mine from Selfridges in London and I got my pin number in a sealed envelope. I assume the same would apply for pickup at airport.

Correct. If you pick up at the airport you are given a sealed envelope that contains the card stuck to a letter (ALA new debit/credit card) containing your PIN

  • Rather than starting a new thread on here i thought I would just hijack this one and I am too thick to work out charges

I will be spending three months in OZ soon.
I will need a card just to withdraw money out roughly £250 a week, I will reload the card every month with £500 while I am out there.

What card works out the best for me
    Owing on CC £00.00 :j

It's like shooting nerds in a barrel
