Problem connecting network to modem-was Problem connect to setup screen ofZoomADSLMdm

We have a Zoom X3 ADSL Modem/Router. We are changing ISPs and I need to change the settings on the modem. I've downloaded the manual from the Zoom site, but I can't seem to be able to connect to the setup screens on the modem. Manual says IP address for modem is 10.0.0.2. If I run IPCONFIG it says default gateway is 192.168.0.100. I've tried both of those in my browser window but just fails to connect. Any ideas? The modem is connected to a DLink router through which all the PCs are networked.

Thanks

  • Why are you using 2 routers? Connect a computer directly to the Zoom modem/router and the 10.0.0.2 address should work.

Why don't you try connecting the Ethernet cable directly to the Zoom X3 and then use http://10.0.0.2

Ipconfig will be giving the IP of the DLink router.

Wasnt my setup. Actually I just checked and while the product code is described on the Zoom website as a modem/router. It is just a modem. No extra ethernet ports.

Tried moving the laptop over and connected ethernet cable directly from laptop to modem. Failed to recognise any connection. Presumably I would need to run some kind of setup routine?

Is there any way of finding out the IP address of the modem when it is connected to the DLink router?

So what do you get when you do ipconfig when the laptop is wired directly to the modem? You should not need to run any set-up and you should be able to connect to the modem using the http://10.0.0.2 address unless for some reason it is different.

OK on your laptop, Start, Settings, Network Connections, Select your Ethernet card and Click on Change Settings for this card, Highlight TCP/IP and then click on Properties. Have you got Obtain IP and Obtain DNS automatically both checked?

IP adress and DNS were all specified. I changed to obtain automatically, but still no joy. Same errors when running IP config.

Just checking that you did save the changes by clicking OK on the way out? I don't understand why you can't now see your IP and default gateway info when using ipconfig.

Yup, all changes were saved. I had to reenter all the defaults again in order to reconnect to the internet.
