Whatever it is it isn't Office 2010 starter expiring as the wqebsite says
"Office Starter is not trial software - you can continue to use it as long as you need it. When you’re ready to move up to PowerPoint, Outlook and the many rich functionalities in a full Office version, upgrading is just a few clicks away."0 -
hi, i have EXACTLY the same problem as you, notepad, mspaint, any program you try to print from it will say that there are no printers or something to that effect, also you may find that if you have an XPS document printer or a PDF document printer, those too, do not work.
I thought it was office 2010, but after uninstalling, cleaning up the system and installing another version of office. no dice, spooler is running and i cannot see any other issues with the system.
i too googled with no luck, so if anyone has an idea... please shout

Ditch MS Office for a free open source alternative would be one solution perhaps?0

Over a month later and I'm still no closer to a solution. Just thought I'd bump this thread in case anyone has come across any good ideas!
Some days it'll print from starter, some days it wont. This morning it wouldnt. I then printed off a webpage, and straight after, it would print off starter!*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***

Have you got Avira anti virus or Norton with the office plug in? If so, make sure you are not connected to the internet, then disable Avira or disable the Norton Office Plug in
Or
1. From the Start Menu, go to the Office Starter 2010 folder
2. Right-click on the shortcut for Word and left-click Properties
3. Go to the Shortcut tab and click the Advanced button
4. Make sure the Run as Administrator checkbox is checked
5. Do the same for Excel
6. You might need to open the app two times before the UAC message appears, but you will be able to see your default printer after that0
