Nuramol - new painkiller

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if they're sucked in to all this fancy marketing regarding high falutin pain killers?
I've noticed that the new product NURAMOL is a combo of brufen 200mg and paracetamol 500mg, not sure of cost but it'll no doubt be at least £2 or £3. Now you can buy the cheap versions of brufen and paracetamol for much less in the same mg quantity. Is there any particular reason why the more expensive ones work better , or do people just think that they work better?

I can't see why a combo would be better, personally I stagger the times that I take various analgesics for maximum effect.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I didn't even realise you could take paracetamol with brufen. I thought it was dangerous to mix pain killers, but a friend of mine told me that they often take the two (a doctor advised them of this).
I think it's because some pain killers work better on different types of pain. Aspirin does nothing for me. Apparantly paracetamol are good for headaches and brufen is good for joint pains. I have that many different types of pain (with no real diagnosis, so I always feel a fraud) I tend not to take pain killers because if they help one thing I'm still usually in pain with other things - so I'm reluctant to take mountains of tablets, That's all I need, a shot liver to add to everything!0 -
I'm trying to find some different painkillers at the moment and saw the ad for this. Will buy the two separate tablets and give them a try. Don't want to spend good money on Nuramol, then find out it doesn't help. Is brufen ibuprofen?
Thanks, OP.From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0 -

why would it be better to stagger them. Why not just take them at the same time for maximum effect - or does certain ailments start hurting more as the day wears on?0 -

Yes, I couldn't remember how to spell ibuprofen! I would ask the pharmacist if there is any reason why you couldn't just buy two separate packs of brufen and paracetamol and take one from each. I really don't think there is any difference as long as you get the same mg. I'm sure that the posh ones may have a sugar coating or something like that to make them easier to swallow, but the medicinal value I would imagine is exactly the same (please someone tell me if this isn't the case.) I just think its such a rip off as medicines are so dear in this country (well England)
I can't imagine the pharmacist is obliged to flog you the nuramol, and if they are given sweeteners to do so - I would imagine that they would have to answer your query honestly0 -

My doctor prescribed me Co-Dydramol for muscle pain. It's a combination of paracetamol and codeine. She said it would be OK to take ibuprofen as well. Pill pushers!0 -
Thanks, OP. There is an assistant in our local Sainsbury's pharmacy who is usually honest in letting me know if things are cheaper without a prescription etc, so I will ask next time I'm there. Getting a bit desperate to find a combination that will work for me now. From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0

I went to the pain clinic (appointments a year apart!) I went on an information class and came away even more confused than when I went in. There are so many different pills it's unbelievable, and because you never get long with a gp it's difficult to get a good combination.
In my case I have back, foot and now joint pains. Blood tests have shown there's no arthritis and I'm scared to go back in case they think I'm a faker. I couldn't believe I didn't have arthritis (althought glad obviously), but the joint pain is really bad. My knees at the minute are killing me, I couldn't get on the bus easily the other day - so I'm at a loss as to what could be wrong.
I reckon a pharmacist is as good as anyone else to give advice on the combination and amounts of pills you can safely pop0 -

I think it was my physio who first suggested it to me when I was having problems with my back many years ago, on the basis that when you take a pain killer you usually have to wait a while before it becomes effective and then you can be feeling pain before you're able to take another dose. You get increased pain relief by using complimentary pain killers, stagger them and hopefully you're getting the benefit of the second before the first has worn off.Eat food. Not too much. Sorry to hear you have so much pain, OP, and I hope that you can get some relief from it very soon.
I have had osteochondritis in my foot since I was a teenager, and now arthritis, too. Had 4 ops and still in awful pain. Makes me so miserable some days, I must turning into a proper grumpy cow! :-( Still live in hope that I will find something to help control it. DIY nuramol will be my next try. From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0
