Speeding fine, points and insurance.

How about, instead of hurling abuse at eachother in a point battle of the epeens.... Let's look at the original topic!gingermagic wrote: »Hello all,
We just received a speeding fine acquired from from a hand held speed camera a couple of weeks ago. We were doing 48 mph in a 30 mph area. Quiet country road on a weekend. Neither my wife of myself can remember which one of us was driving at the time. I already have 6 points on my licence for speeding, my wife has 3.
If we were to choose which one of us takes the points, what would be the implications in terms of insurance premiums and excess? Is 6 points each better or worse than 9 points for one driver and 3 points for the other?
I have a friend who contested a speeding fine and won, but he spent £1500 on a lawyer that could do that for him. We don't have that kind of money. We've just been stung by car problems to the tune of £2000 and have no spare cash what so ever at the moment.
Is there anything I can do?
If not, what's the best damage control in terms of the points and insurance?
Thanks“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

When I was sent a Notice of Intended Prosecution I asked if I could see the video evidence. I was allowed to go to the Police HQ where they showed me the video tape where I was clearly visible. They even showed me the calibration certificates for the gun and points on the video where they tested the laser by pointing it at stationery objects and vehicles moving away from the camera. I didn't have to ask for a court hearing; I was still able to take the fixed penalty option after I'd seen the video, although I think some forces insist on you requesting a court hearing before disclosing evidence (not sure whether that is legal).
If it was just a laser gun there won't be any video evidence but the officer may have made a quick note like "male driver" when jotting down the reading.
I'd suggest you ask to see the film. If you say it was your wife and it's clearly a man on the video, you are likely to receive an unwelcome knock on the door.
If there is no film or if they refuse to show you, be honest and say you don't know.
Speeding is one thing. Attempting to pervert the course of justice is quite another.
This guy got 4 months in jail for attempting to get out of a speeding ticket by faking a satnav history record:

I really have no idea how you are alive or ever passed the driving test....
Lots and lots of luck! You should see it when I'm sat buttering bread and opening a packet of cheese and onion crisps while hitting almost 80 on the motorway.
Multi-tasking FTW.
I won't tell you about that time I made a cup of coffee with the travel kettle, the sugar was everywhere! Making a cuppa while driving is seriously difficult. On that note.... I'm driving a 300 mile round trip tomorrow so I'd best go check there is enough coffee and bottled water left in the car..We’ve had to remove your signature. It's always wise to use those words with caution.
I always used to hear those words from a certain work colleague, until he got caught doing 34 in a 30 zone. Now? instead of moaning constantly about speeding drivers and judging those of us with SP30's, he now moans about speed camera's
The UK population have become extremely competitive drivers, constantly on the look out for anyone who dare's to make good progress, or even setting out to purposely wind up and annoy other drivers. Roads have been designed to compact traffic and to cause maximum frustration.... It's a jungle out there with far worse crimes than tipping over the speed limit by a few mph.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

What they need to do is take those boy racers with their pathetic exhausts and shoot them all. No need to have an unnecessary loud exhaust, benefits no one. I really can't see the logic in it.
Now, their cars is worth throwing paint stripper over.
What I'd like to see (but too lazy to research it on Google) is the accident statistics for those German autobahn thingies to see how it compares to the UK's motorways. We’ve had to remove your signature.
