Here's a tip.. next time, slam the brakes when you see a police car conveniently sitting at the side of the road (I do and it works every time!).

A good average human reaction time is 200 milliseconds, lidar speed guns (like the LTI 20-20) get a reading on you in 300 milliseconds. I don't know many cars that will scrub off speed THAT quickly (100ms).

You also have to factor in the reactions of the officer too, but if they're hiding over a hill or round a bend, they can get a reading before you even register seeing them..... "oh look it's an aerial, get ready!!!"

On the up side, they try to aim at your number plate.... They can go off your headlights, but the laser might throw up a "JAM" warning if your headlights are on, due to the laser being relatively low power (something like 40mw).

So if you want to reduce your chances of being caught before you see them, drive around with headlights on ;)

It has always worked for me. Milliseconds set aside, it's still better to slam than continue driving at the same speeds, you don't know if the officer is pointing the gun at you or the bird above his head.

And as for reaction time.. I naturally go for the brakes when I see police on the motorway or lurking behind some bush area, whether that helps who knows.

I don't. Maybe its because I know what the speed limit is and what speed I'm doing.

    People like you cause accidents.

So even though you're travelling below the speed limit, you slam on the brakes every time you see a Police car?

    Moron.

Good. I just hope it's your car I crash in to next. :)

  • Hello all,

We were doing 48 mph in a 30 mph area.

Take the punishment, thats a rediculous speed to be doing in a 30 zone.
