Smoking Fine Travelodge (Civil Recovery)

I have recently stayed in a Travelodge hotel and have received at letter from a civil recovery agent demanding a £150 fine.
At no time during my stay did any smoking take place within the room, I am a non smoker.
I have replied to the civil recovery agent stating this but they have come back to me and said the room smelt of smoke.
I have had no luck from citizens advice, they have advised to pay
Local solicitors start from £160 per hour plus VAT so I dont know what to do?
Can anyone offer any advice?
Thank you!

Just tell them you are a non smoker, recorded delivery, and wait, when it comes to court claim for a days wages and have fun. You will win if you can prove you don't smoke.0

This is laughable. Tell them to take a running jump and not to harass you any more.
Unless they can provide a solid piece of evidence like a fag butt (only joking by the way.)
Who's to say you didn't spend the night with a mate who smokes like a trooper and that smell has got on your clothes.
As I said tell them to get lost. By the way the advice from the CAB is shocking.0 -

Escalate and complain to Guy Parsons, Travelodge Chief Executive. via sending an email to guy.parsons@travelodge.co.uk.
Good luck and hope this helps.0 -

Had you been with friends who had been smoking, even smoking outside when youre not a smoker its being smoked 'at you'make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Im a smoker and use Travelodge often. I'm going to start taking a can of Oust with me. I wouldnt dream of smoking in the room
but having a fag outside and then going back to the room it sure to smell a little, youre exhaling smoke for at least 5 minutes after you ve finished a fag.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

If you have signed (or entered your PIN) on a credit card authorisation giving permission for "extras" to be taken if applicable, simply cancelling the card won't do you any good.
Just about all hotels and hire card companies can debit your card account for these charges (provided it is stated in the booking), and this is to allow for things such as minibar charges, room damage, parking tickets etc, which would not be known of at the time of payment.
It would be far better to dispute the case with Travelodge and get them to admit that nothing is due. Simply cancelling the card could cause the OP further grief if it ended up with legal action.0
