Electric Toothbrushes ....

Options
Argos & Boots have the Philips Sonicare was £99 now £49 (was thinking of getting one on Boots Christmas shopping nite!)

BUT.... the replacement heads are £15 for one £25 for 2.

I know they're supposed to be good toys, but that seems crazzzzy!

Think it'll be one the others HX 1526 was £24 now £14.99

Unless you other Moneysavers can suggest alternatives!!

Thanks in advance!!

  • We bought some off Bidtv, Paid about £25 inc.P&P We are happy with them think they are a good buy. If you are going to buy them find an morning or afternoon auction, they tend to work out cheapest. There P&P costs are always £8 upwards.
  • If you've never had an electric toothbrush before, then anything is an improvement over a normal brush. Personally I find the Braun (Oral-B) range to be amazing for the price.....I got an Oral-B 5000 (double pack) for approx £35 a few of months ago. Also, the replacement heads are much cheaper than the Philips Sonicare you mentioned.

I bought the philips sonicare after a recommendation from my dentist. two year's later he can't believe the improvement in my teeth and gums. it could save you more in dental costs than you spend on it. heads only need replacing every six months.

Boots are (or at least were) selling the Oral B ones (Vitality etc) for half price at £12.49 and I bought one for myself. When I asked the assiatant the difference between the different types of the Oral B ones she explained that it was just the heads that were different. So you can buy whichever "refil" heads you like, e.g the sonic head fits the vitality base and vice versa.

I was so impressed with it i went back and bought one for my little girl and put the mickey mouse head on it (keeping her original vitality head as a spare for myself). My husband has since also got one and is also very happy with it.

Only had battery ones before and batteries always seemed to run out so fast these are so much better and excellent value at that price. Not sure if they are still on that offer.

    Sonicare is a million times better (have had both conventional and 3d Oral Bs in the past). Only thing I would say is it does take a bit of getting used to after an Oral B;

    - the head is a lot larger...though still only the size of a conventional brush, it's bigger than an Oral B
    - it does clean more aggressively - takes some getting used to.

Similar to others' observations, my dental hygenist did comment how there was far less tartar build up when I switched to Philips.
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...

Braun do a pretty large choice of elecrtic brushes. If you want a good vigorous clean go for one of the rechargeable ones with "40,000 pulsations" as well as the rotating action, I think Braun call it 3D excel. We have one and it feels MUCH more effective than the battery powered one we had first and now take on holiday.
I would avoid the weedy basic ones and go for one with 3D excel, Sainsburys recently had a good offer on one.
