There was a trend a few years ago for the term 'human capital'. I remember a talk where someone posed the rhetorical question 'What is the difference between human capital and financial capital?' I thought to myself ' people have feelings'

Wrong answer! Apparently, the only difference is human capital can leave (slavery having, regrettably, been abolished).

Glad that fad seems to have had its day. Saying 'we are a people business' doesn't seem so cold blooded
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Can I ask are the monkey nuts you are planting just normal in the shell type you buy at Asda? Our hamsters love eating them and if the kids could grow some for them it would thrill them to bits. :)

Yep, any monkey nuts will do, but just googled it and I was right, they need 4-5 months of warm weather, frost tender.
Might be able to get a crop in a greenhouse now. But for the price of a packet maybe worth a go anyway for the kids.
Probably why they're not grown as a crop in the UK, not often we get the warm weather for a commercially viable crop, but fine for a back garden or as I did pots, as I have clay soil and they need free draining.

jfdi, When we got our attic converted last autumn, the builders went away one Friday evening having put in the 3 spots into the roof, complete with bulbs. Over the weekend, we had gotten LED spots to replace them and totally confused the builder on Monday morning!

What we found was that they are slightly blue light (the ones we got anyway) but they just went into the standard fitting no problem. And as they're on the attic stairs, we can leave them on all night if need be (there's a 5 year old up there and no loo), but they are slightly dimmer than the standard spots (plenty bright enough but not dazzling when you come from a pitch black room).

I think OH just got them in the local hardware store (like B&Q, but Irish chain called Woodies). We put them into the attic room too, as there's 3 spots along the ridge line as well. And they're great.

Edited to add - & all bought at mega discounts with cashback too you'll be glad to know!

The leds for the light in the kitchen are more complicated to find though (2 lights, having 4 and 6 directional bulbs coming off them), although as the original ones get blown, we are replacing them with leds.

In fact, the only light fitting that is not energy efficient bulbs at the moment in the house (most are CFLs), are the 5 roof spots (large ones) in the extension at the back of the kitchen, and they are on a dimmer switch so I don't think we can change those.

    Oooh! Winged-one!

You have given me hope! Do you find they're any worse than these awful low-energy bulbs? I DO miss my old 100w ones - esp for reading & sewing etc.

Well - the 'boys' (DS & DH) got the old kn@ckered sink unit swapped over for the one the 'lectrician got us from a kitchen someone was having ripped out - no more wobbles, YAY!

Just a few doors to finish 'liming' (they're oak & there's no way we were getting rid!) and then it's a new black/grey worktop and my raspberry pink paint to finish off. Just cannot wait - we installed the kitchen 20 years ago & had the cheapest Fridge & Cooker - & I've just treated us to an all-singing all-dancing Samsung American F/F (that has ice & filtered water too!) & a gorgeous Cannon range cooker. Can you actually be in love with appliances? :rotfl::rotfl:

Not caught up yet...but just popping to say 'Hi!! remember me!' :D

After a several appointments at hospital, two lots of MRI scans and lots of waiting around - I finally got my results...

...the awkward moment .....when you sit down in the chair at the doctors office .... he rings Reception to tell them not to put any calls through .... takes hold of your hand and says that he's very sorry but......

The good news is that its not a brain tumour, cancer or motor neurone disease, the bad news is that it's MS.

    Oh b*gger!

Just got to get my head round this and I'll be back!

    Thinking positive for sure!

Charlies Aunt, I guess knowing at last is better than not. I hope you have more good days than bad and get help in the future.

Jackie and GQ sorry you and yours are going through it, I hope the many laughs on here help.Theres not much I can say to you and Charlies aunt but sending hugs

Went to Mr S and noticed I am now buying whoopsies at the price stuff used to be normally??? Had a small victory, using coupons got my buy down from 41.00 to 32.00 including the free tin of spam from a voucher I won on FB - OH misses the stuff now its 1.79 a tin

Just made chicken curry in the sc and 2 macaroni cheeses, one for tomorrow and 1 for freezing. feeling quite virtuous witha reduction on shopping, stocking up the freezer and getting the bank to repay my bank charges - I spoke to them in March when my benefits stopped and they didnt do anything but it was recorded and they had to back down, I was on a slippery slope to bankruptcy!

Charlies-Aunt, sorry to hear about the MS. No doubt they'll be starting to look at treatment options for you soon, so best of luck with all that. We're all here for you whenever you need a bit of a rant or a hug.

Softstuff - I want aussie light fittings and I firmly blame you!
I accept that blame. Heck, you guys get Asda, Sainsburys and Tesco.... I have to have something to compensate, even if it is just a lighting shop.

Food here is getting stupid, and hubby is well and truly sick of me mentioning it :rotfl: Even with reduced items, menu planning and frugal cooking I'm struggling to stay in budget now. Guess I just need to try harder ;).

Charlies-Aunt, so sorry to hear you are poorly. However, now you have a diagnosis the doctors will be able to help you.

From what I know of you you can handle this. You've helped so many people on here, don't be afraid to come on and yell when you want someone to talk to.
