As The Workhouse Approaches....How To Do Everything To Avoid It, the Old Style Way

Well - theres a turn-up for the books...re the beyatch boss. I wouldnt have thought she would have had her marching orders just because of one person - I think yours was more likely to be a case of "the last straw" and if you hadnt been that "last straw" then someone else would have been. If she was that bad - and the firm are reasonable (as it sounds like maybe they ultimately are) then she would have been "on borrowed time" anyway.
So - all's well that ends well:D Hadnt realised you love the job - so its fortunate that things HAVE turned out well. Bad enough to move on from "any old job" - but it would have been really galling to have to do so from one you love (will now sit here and try to visualise what it must be like to have a job one loves......that will be my "get the imagination going" task for the day..as its something I've never had personally...but am envious of/pleased for people who DO have that:().
Yeah, I get the impression that other things had occurred while I was away with her - mutterings about people going off with stress, but to be honest I've not nosed too much, I'm not a gossiper or a game player and besides, I don't really want to draw attention to the 'coincidence' that she left the day I came back.
I think even I had forgotten that I'd loved that job, I'd been so worn down by the beyatching and the pain. But I do really enjoy it. It's not the most taxing job in the world, but I basically spend the day chatting to nice people and doing something nice (booking holidays) for them. I get paid pretty well for what I do, not a fortune but at the high end for contact centre workWhen I switch off my computer, I switch off my job, and when it goes quiet in the 'off' season, you're allowed to bring in your knitting or sewing or whatever. So it suits me for now - I can't say I want to spend the rest of my life doing it, but it's a good place for me at the moment.
I presume one can eat them raw too? - same as other bean sprouts?
Absolutely! You need a lot of self-discipline for them to make it into your stir-fry or whateverI just got my letter from Scottish Power saying it was going up, and I phoned them. Had a long discussion with a nice lady who tried her hardest to get me to change to DD payments. I got her to work everything out to the exact penny and this is how it went- cos I wrote it down. These figures are the new rates after the rise on 1st Aug.-
on the monthly variable DD tariff, capped for a year -
standing charge per day is 28.36p and unit price is 13.73p
On the standard tariff that we're currently on, after the increase -
standing charge per day is 27.1p and unit price 13.1p
So I said well its not cheaper for me then is it and hung up !
It's amazing how many people just accept that one thing is cheaper than another though - and power companies seem to be some of the worst. The number of times people trying to get you to change tariff by just saying it's cheaper, and expect you to just take their word for it!
But then, it's the same sort of thing in the supermarkets. Twice in the last few weeks I've had a second look and found that the basics or own brand version is not the cheapest, or that the 'big value' size is not the cheapest unit price.0 -
CharliesAunt - I am truly glad it wasn't the other things you mentioned but it must have been a huge shock x. Some forms progress very slowly, so hugs and prayers for that.
GreyQueen -hopefully end of the week results will be good, but thoughts and prayers for you and your family at this stressful time x.
It has taken me 3 days to catch up with this thread! I wouldn't be surprised if all this talk affected global warming.
Haven't seen much of the big yellow ball, but the celestial watering can has been working overtime. Good for the water butts and weeds. Hopefully the potatoes, beans, courgettes and butternut squash will like swimming in it.
We heeded Martin's advice and switched from SP (when they announced their price hikes) to a fixed term rate. Had hard sell tactics to try and entice us back i.e. they'd put the price rise on hold!!! Yeah right!Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

Well ladies, today I have a hangover! I had a very rare night out last night with the girlies and it kind of took off!!
:rotfl: Not only am I too old for this but Jesus, how expensive is it to go out these days???
Charlies Aunt...we have 3 family friends who have MS and all have different degrees. Fingers crossed it isnt aggressive and you can manage it. It is alot more common than people think. Take care xx0 -
Charlies aunt - it must be so hard to hear but as everyone has said at least you know your enemy now, and we are all here for you.
Party update - OH collected DD at 11.30 - he found scenes of chaos and house devastation - apparently a group of kids had been ejected but still things got wrecked and both parents appeared angry, upset and visibly shaken. He says they seemed ready to finally draw a line with her and begin parenting - but being sceptical as I have heard it all before - although its never been this bad before.
OH says dog (high pedigree and baby of family) had obviously been given alcohol so I expect the scenes there this morning are anything other than pretty. And DD says she is read y to distance herself from the girl - as she spent most of her evening trying to help parents control her!!
Today i have looked at our bank accounts and we are seriously low on money - I have really let things slip and need to get right back on track pronto, so off to menu plan from freezers for week.0 -
Oh I am wilting, my non stop doing is going fast but  the last thing I was doing was stretching myself while kneeling low on the floor ,trying to reach into the far corner of a dark corner cupboard. What a flipping stupid design. I`ll never be able to get in there in 10 years time and dh can`t do it now because of hips. I reckon that the things I use most are my lock and lock boxes so why the heck did I put them in there? A mad moment. I have re vamped a tall cupboard from counter to almost ceiling, it is a shallow cupboard and very useful but not when it wasn`t organised. It is now with rows of matching lock and locks
and all labelled. I have managed to find and store lots of bits and pieces of packets
That leaves me with an empty floor cupboard and I have decided to put my spare lock and locks in the bottom half as I end up throwing them in the corner cupboard
Tbh I have got to stop and use up what I have and hopefully I`ll easily be able to find things, instead of thinking I haven`t got it and buying another
I have found my cinnemon mountain so cinnemon buns here we come. I`m going to try the panny sweet dough recipe just rolled out etc as I cannot be !!!`d making dough by hand today
I am taking in the fact that some people are going through a horrible time, it is yet another turn on the journey through life. I hope the road gets easier for you and I`ll light a candle for you later today, in a calm moment when I`ll be sending you some positive thoughts0 -

Whatever sort of toerag gives a dumb animal alcohol:mad:. Poor thing..
Well - I did wonder whether this will give this girls parents a much-needed wake-up call...so lets hope it really will.
You must be just so thankful that your daughter is indeed so sensible and at least she has now worked out for herself that its time to distance herself from this girl. So - guess this could be the first time she has had to learn that some people CAN only be dealt with by distancing oneself from them? At least she's learnt that lesson pretty early on. I wish I'd known this at 16. I think it must have taken me rather longer than that before I realised that the only way to deal with some people is to keep well away from them. By now - a couple of hints that they think its acceptable to be selfish with money/take drugs/go in for theft/etc and if its not clear that that was "past bad behaviour and they've learnt better by now" - then they hear the sound of a door shutting as I've just gone..
It takes a LONG while for some of us to learn "No company is better than bad company":o:o - but, of course, good company is best of all..:)
Reet...time to hie me hence soon for another walk....reference book in hand:)0 -
Kidcat - Well done on bringing up such a lovely well-balanced daughter. It sounds like she has learned a very valuable lesson and seen this wayward "friend" cause her parents a great deal of grief.Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

I'm the same with hard to reach badly-designed kitchens. The new double glazing is hellish for me to open - handles halfway up and very tight, and if you turn it too far the whole bloody window seems to fall on you ! It opens two ways with different turns and I can't get used to them. Have to get the RV to do the kitchen one as its above the sink and I cant reach .
Never seen so much rain in my life as we're having now. Garden is wrecked, new K :eek:stuff is flattened and so are baby turnips. Lilac was just out and its a mess, and the buddleia hasnt even got buds on yet. Not enough sun!!
And we are sick of the sight of bloody tomatoes :rotfl:0 -
Kidcat: wow, that's bad. I can't ever imagine doing this to my parents when I was a teenager, my life wouldn't have been worth living after! The girl is responsible and old enough to know that what she did was wrong but the parents have given her too much leeway and not parented her properly. As for the dog being given alcohol, that's disgusting. Thank god your daughter is sensible, she is right to distance herself, her friend is veering off the rails from the sound of it.
Kittie: cinnamon buns sound yummy, you've given me something to do while my OH goes out later.
It's that horrible time of year again, home insurance renewal. I got a renewal price of £82 for contents from my insurance company. I went online thinking a new customer quote would be cheaper and using the details they gave me, it was £130. eek! Think I will be staying with them now, it's gone up a lot since we took it out 3 years ago (I paid a fiver for the year using Quidco. The policy was £75 in total and there was £70 cashback) but I can't complain too much. I'm off out for niece's birthday soon, got to hit the dreaded Tesco for a cd she wants. nd I 've got a thorough house deep clean to look forward to after I get back.
Hugs to those that need them.0 -
afternon all,
had a lovely morning and went to spend nearly £200 in costco!!!!! luckily only 33.18 of that actually counts as ours :P and i bought mini cinnamon rolls (DIVINE!) falafels (cos hubby insists you could never make em as nice) yoshida wing and rib sauce (which is great over rice and veggies), crunchy PB for him, big branston pickle jar and some lazy garlic, and yes i know it doesn't seem os but for £3.89 you get 1.25kg ready chopped
this afternoon i plan on meeting friends having cake and then up to the hospital for a visit, he's doing ok, but they have confirmed it is definitely dementia
xx
