As The Workhouse Approaches....How To Do Everything To Avoid It, the Old Style Way

Evening all. Mad developments at work - beyatch boss is no more. She left 'by mutual consent' half an hour before my shift.
Hope it all wasn't all because of me - much as she was a beyatch she also has a kid. Though I think that I'm not the only life she made difficult, and I have only told the truth about what happened. So - mixed feelings I suppose.
The desk adjustments were perfect, isn't it funny what they can do when they put their minds to it? I'd forgotten how much I love my job when I'm not in absolute agony and I'm not being beyatched at!
Pennib I grew peanut plants a few years ago. They're fun but you don't get enough of them to actually do anything with. They are absolutely fascinating - they put out a white flower, it then dives over and grows back in the ground, and the seed pods develop there. They're not frost hardy so do bear that in mind.0 -
larumbelle good to hear you are back and have the right equipment, wouldnt worry about the boss realistically it would take more than one person's complaints to get rid - so I assume there are plenty of people with a complaint - yours may simply have been her last chance as it were.0

Hello
I'm a long time lurker and some time poster on this thread, and just wanted to say how sorry I am for those who are having difficulties at work, in particular Larumbelle and VJsmum.
I'm an HR Manager and would really like to reassure the world at large that we aren't all monsters and 'the HR lady' or 'the person who is always there when someone is made redundant' isn't necessarily someone who doesn't know how you're feeling.
I've been to hell and back financially, am a single parent and work my butt off to repay my debts. I also suffer with mental health problems and have had to leave a job because of this, so am totally empathetic with my colleagues who are going through similar problems or suffering with other health problems.
I just wanted to let you all know that the establishment aren't always the bad guys, and some of use really do care about the people we work with.

Hi Annie! It's always nice to meet a lurker
I don't make generalisations, I only judge people on how they treat me, be it in work or otherwise! As it goes, one of our HR said exactly the same thing to me yesterday - but the funny thing is, I always have thought of HR as being on 'my' side, it really never occurred to me that HR might be the enemy! Maybe I've never been naughty enough at work :rotfl:0 -
I wonder what bright spark came up with the idea of a department called "Human Resources?" To me, it sounds like it devalues the workforce in some way, putting staff on a par with paper clips or light bulbs. What on earth was wrong with the title "Personnel Department?" I suppose it is political correctness in some form or other? One life - your life - live it!0

Couldn't agree more. My feelings were neatly summed up in Doctor Who a couple of years ago when it turned out that the nasty HR chap was preparing Donna to be food for a hungry alien brood. Cue two great jokes: "why do you think it's called "human" resources?" and "this time, it's personnel".
Well, I thought they were great jokes :rotfl::rotfl::p0 -
Cerwiden and pennib
I did this when DS was small back in the 80's.
You're a bit late in the year from what I remember. I'm sure they took all spring and summer to grow but I could be wrong.
Basically when they flower you get stems which grow downwards towards the soil, into the soil and you harvest the nuts from underground.
No wonder they are calorie heavy they need a lot of energy to grow.
Crop was smaller than I was expecting but DS was chuffed to bits and feed most of them to the garden squirrels. He still does 25 years later!0 -
There's a debate in my place as to whether HR were better when they were personnel or when they were modernised into Human Resources. I personally always try to remember the human bit, but I know it'a not the same for all my industry peers - having been on the wrong side of them, they go for their own sometimes too.
However, I think it's worth remembering that whoever seems to be giving you a hard time, working against you and being the bad guys, for the most part they are also people who are trying to bring home the bacon and provide for their families. My team gets an awful lot of stick, I take it because I'm the manager and that responsibility comes with the job and i shouldn't put myself forward for it if I can't handle it, but I really hope that the people who give my guys a horrible time know that their jobs are also at risk, and they are just the messengers.
rant over. I think you're all great and have personally learnt an aawful lot from you xxSay what you mean.. mean what you say... without being mean.0 -
Can I ask are the monkey nuts you are planting just normal in the shell type you buy at Asda? Our hamsters love eating them and if the kids could grow some for them it would thrill them to bits.0
