We definitely got some of the warmth today in sunderland, but even though it was warm, it was also fairly overcast for a lot of the day and it was very muggy ><

Went to Mr T's yesterday morn to nab 3 of their value porridge oats as I eat a fair bit of them as theyre currently on 3-4-2... (75p normal price per 1kg bag so £1.50 buys you 3kg of oats - a cracking little deal). However when I got there, there were only 2 bags out... Asked a member of staff who advised if I mentioned it at the till they'd give me a voucher for the third at a later date :) Did just that and have my voucher :) Very proud of that as not so long ago I would have been too shy!
    On the up :D

    Hot - very bloody hot!

Kittie - roughly £24 per month. I think I have found the culprit. That and the lappy charger. Thanks very much.

"very wet and very windy. We haven't had more than an hour or two of dry weather in a row since late April/early May, nothing is growing except weeds - even the grass isn't growing, i've only cut it twice this year."
    *****************************
Snap. Husband was just saying that about the grass. Awful year.

If anyone's too hot indoors, open the loft hatch.
    Makes a big difference here.

Slightly weird times - I think the whole CC household must be suffering from solar stuff...

DD couldn't MOVE on Thursday - literally bent double like an old lady - so I called our chiropractor (aka Marjorie The Witch) and she saw her on Thursday evening. She said the whole of her right side was completely seized up - probably from where her horse was startled and kicked, catching her hip SIX MONTHS AGO. DD climbed onto the bench and said "I feel a bit sick". She was white as a sheet so I turned to grab a bin off the floor and with that she just went clunk - fell forwards off the bench straight onto her face on the floor with the chiropractor trying to catch her from behind and me trying to get under her. Very scary stuff, especially as it took quite a while for me to wake her. Anyway, bless Marjorie, she treated her on the floor cuddling up against me (DD, not the chiropractor :D). Did her usual incredible magic (hence The Witch) and DD was much better by the time we left. However, just like when DH and I visit her, DD came home and went straight to sleep. She was off school on Friday, even though she told me when she went to bed that she'd be fine for school the next day - the whole thing just knocked her for six.

Anyway, for those who haven't tried gentle holistic chiropractic - which I think is called McTimoney(??) - I'd definitely recommend it - no crunching or cracking or getting into ridiculous positions!

On Saturday we all felt weird, though DD was much better, and we - in a moment of madness - brought the horse down to munch on our grass which is LONG. Walked her back (or rather, she tore back with me hanging on to her lead rope and saying, steady and stand every few minutes to stop myself being dragged - always fun, trying to restrain a 16'2 horse who wants to get home asap), and then collapsed in a heap.

This morning, we all four embarked on Operation Defeat Those Cunning Rat Ba*****ds which involved emptying the shed, jacking it up and mounting it on breezeblocks to stop the rats nesting underneath. We were *almost* done and I was looking forward to getting to grips with my garden when....

yes. One of DH's hives decided to swarm. You have never seen so many b****y bees EVERYWHERE. We decided that discretion was the better part of valour and scarpered into the house. So I had to do CHORES in the house, rather than pottering in my garden and getting it all up together

So, a weird weekend. None of us feels quite the thing. BUT - I did have homegrown courgettes and homegrown chard for supper last evening. I picked some broad beans too, but cleverly forgot to cook them (rolls eyes). So MAYBE getting there. I've locked up the greenhouse tonight in a brave attempt to save my tomatoes from blight. Hopefully this week will be better.

Hugs to all that need 'em - IOIWE, hope all our prayers/candles/good thoughts have helped your relative.

    I have a green tomato :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j hurray!

One tomato out of 12 plants. Oh well, it's a start!

ChocClare, tell your husband he has to train his bees only to swarm when no-one's in the garden :rotfl:

Well, I picked the last of the raspberries and tayberries tonight. There's still the odd one or two to ripen but the bulk of them have been harvested. Just wondering whether to freeze them or make more jam. I already have six jars of jam in the fridge. How long will it keep? I'm wondering if jam made now will be ok for hampers at Christmas.

Another jam related question now. I have some minarette apple trees in my back yard, and I am going to thin the fruit tomorrow to leave just one apple per spur to ripen. If I peeled and cored the unripe green apples and chopped them finely, could I use them in jam as pectin? I am off to do a google on this but wondered if anyone here knows.

Then when the washing machine finishes I shall be off to bed. Suddenly realised I was heading for a knicker crisis - thank goodness it's warm so they will dry overnight!

Goodnight all. I hope tomorrow brings good things for you all.

Going to make a cup of tea, then read through the other threads for awhile. See if it will help me feel sleepy.

It was very muggy here yesterday but no sun.At least got all the washing done and dryed. Ironing this afternoon. If I am awake LOL.
Hope everyone has a good day today. Will see you all later.

i`ll tell you what drives me mad and that is all the crops that are grown for biofuel and not for food. It sounds as though the world is going to be very hard pushed to provide enough food for the growing population. Really we should be self sufficient in the uk, except we have far too many people here as well. The answer has got to be contraception and population restrictions and far more allotments available for people, I reckon that most allotments are far more productive than farmed food. Our allotment is only about 960 sq ` and that and the small back garden has kept us in veg since end of march and we only got it 6 months before then

Singing my song there Kittie:T. That and being much stronger on immigration restrictions...

I think there's still a lot of people who havent yet got the message that "contraception and population restrictions " = yes...that DOES mean EVERYone (including themselves). But its good that the message has got through to a reasonable proportion of people by now - it just needs to spread so that everyone understands it and doesnt try and count themselves out of that....:(

Anyrate - will go before I get on my soapbox - and am feeling slightly sick anyways (probably a combination of 'twas blistering hot yesterday here and car fumes). Theenk the number of cars on the road round here is starting to go down very slightly these days - fingers crossed....and click heels together (a la Wizard of Oz??) as we have an absolutely horrendous traffic problem round here.

yes Haribo - your journey more than made up for lack of sun. I loved hearing about the wildlife you saw.
Hearing of the heat down south has reminded me of how much I hated it. I lived in Suffolk for 17 years and the summers were just faaaarrrr too long and too hot. I remember one August with practically no rain and when it did rain one day I sat out in it in the garden. Bliss. No more moaning about lack of heat in Scotland - just remind me folks if I sneak in a moan sometime!
Took younger dog out at 6 this morning and it was lovely walking round the park listening to all the birdsong. I have my windows open and am listening to it now. I even have a CD with just birdsong, no background music.
I know this is a good discussion thread and I really enjoy reading people's views. I know we all have different views but I feel a bit uneasy in case there is another argument about numbers of children in families and overcrowding etc.
Need to make some phone calls today including sorting electricity supplier.
I'm off to chop some veggies for soup. Need to get some grocery shopping done today but I'm going to use up what's in the veg drawers in the fridge. I've even taken to adding lettuce and cucumber (minus rind) to the soup pot if they look a bit past it.
Have a good day folks. Hope you get some veggie growing weather wherever you are and whatever you need!

I thought I'd had some sort of energy sapping virus....maybe not then? I'm just starting to feel better after 2 weeks of exhaustion and not feeling like eating anything much.

Todays projects are to clean the sitting room, to make some cookies for the boy and to do some more washing and ironing. It was warm here yesterday, but it also rained. Lots and lots of rain. My house is big and old, so it stays cool downstairs - it can be quite a shock when the door is opened and you realise how warm it is outside.
