It is 34 degrees c here in Kent. I've already drunk about 2 litres of water and the fan is going full tilt.

reduce a sauce by simmering it until half or more of the liquid evaporates and you are left with a thickened sauce ;)

Morning ladies...bloody eck its 28 degrees here..am sweating just doing my normal jobs...it sounds mean but i daren't let the tots outside..being blonde and having fair skin they burn..even though they are covered in factor 50..iris still has a little redness on her shoulders...

Kidcat..oh i love yorkies with jam..my tots do too...i have to do about twenty on a sunday..and she will have them in her lunch box on monday too...

Who asked about allotment security..far as i know there is none..but then the lotties we have back onto a housing estate and the folks there have lotties too so they keep an eye out..plus a 12ft fence with barbed wire on top helps...its not folks wandering in to help themselves thats the problem..its the other lottie holders..hubby had a chap start helping himself to our rhubarb and didn't even ask..thing is hubby was there working away while he started to do it..hubby told him if we offer its ok but if we don't then its theft..his argument was the previous plot holder had always let him..well that was them and this is us and no you can't have any so bu**er off...haven't seen him since..

Right go to go and get washing out before the storms hit...i was going to make jam today but sod that its too hot..nevermind..my fruit is frozen so it will be there when i want to do it..

Lizzyb...lol i'm knitting winter scarfs and re-doing my curtains for this winter..its boiling here but i don't want to get caught out again..folks think i'm crazy..but i like to think that yes i might be doing all this work all summer long but come winter i'll have everything i need and hopefully be warm and cozy..with all harvested fruits and veg nestling quietly in my freezer to feed my family...

take care all..remember to have plenty of water..and wear a hat..suncream etc..
    love

OK all you down south peeps. Stop on the glorious weather. I'm at 14 degrees and wet. We had to hose down the dog after his walk yesterday because of all the mud.

mardatha I swear by worcestershire sauce for livening up mince dishes - bolognaise, mince and tatties, etc. Agree with the herbs as well. If you don't want to buy lots of different ones a good tub of 'mixed herbs' is great mixed with anything.

Am I right you aren't veggie? With lamb - redcurrant jelly, pasta - chilli flakes, most dishes - splash of wholegrain mustard.

All you boil away is some of the water in the sauce. What you get left with is concentrated and so more full of flavour.

FTM - glad someone else is thinking of winter. I was so, so cold last winter that I'm determined not to go through that again

I agree about Worcershire sauce. Mardatha "reducing" isnt wasting. All that happens is that the water in the soup, jam, whatever, turns to water vapour in the boiling and evaporates. The fruit/veg is therefore more concentrated by boiling off the excess water and so tastes better. Or in the case of jam and marmalade,it sets.

Mid post just had to rescue toast from grill as it was burning, i blame you lot as the talk of worcester sauce made me yearn for cheese on toast:D
