Another thing my mum would do is make the gravy in the bowl with the remaining pudding mix in it, it seemed to thicken the gravy. .

I do this now it does make lovely gravy.

I also sometimes do extra little puddings witha bit of chopped apple in and then have those with golden syrup over.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).

We never have any yorkshire puddings leftover, my DS7 eats them like they are going out of business! If there are six of us eating I usually make at least twelve large puddings - he will easily eat six of them, if we have guests I make more - but he still gets more - often staring at anyone daring to try to eat one or take one for the plate - I always explain to anyone that is new to eating with us that they have to ignore his guilting them. had never thought of making them into a dessert - he would love that. :)

It is absolutely sweltering here today, its so strange especially since the last house was so cold, its a shock to the system, but having to keep windows locked means fans are on in most rooms today. Its been great for drying washing though - and DS7 even wore 3/4 trousers.

Your temperatures are high! we're 14 degrees here - very wet and very windy. We haven't had more than an hour or two of dry weather in a row since late April/early May, nothing is growing except weeds - even the grass isn't growing, i've only cut it twice this year. I'm concentrating on getting winter veg into the garden, hoping it will be big enough to withstand the coming winter, but disappointed I've nothing to freeze from this season. I've had no soft fruit, no beans or peas yet, tatties are leafed but no flowers yet. I'm hoping i'll get a little in the coming weeks. It isn't helping my wee cottage economy!!

Kimitatsu thank you for the links - I'll try and do the breakfast bars this week. I've got an emergency tin of condensed milk in the store cupboard (probably out of date though :rotfl:)

Went to the PYO farm for strawbs and rasberries and blew £1.25 on a bunch of 4 smallish beetroot which OH has just pressure cooked for me (I don't touch it as big sis had an accident with mum's whilst she was on holiday and we had to redecorate the kitchen!)

Our village is having it's twice yearly 'big rubbish' collection this week which the parish council organise to deter fly-tipping. Got home this pm and opposite neighbour was putting stuff out front including two stone pedestals about 2 feet high. He said that they used to have lamps on but they had broken. I said why doesn't he put plant pots on or something but he said that he couldn't be bothered! Sent DD to get the sack barrow and they're now installed on my patio - going to put a plank between them and put pots with trailing plants on.

Off to get DD from cinema now - the joys of teenagers!
They'll ask me how I got her I'll say

Oh dear, westcoastscot - it's been double your 14 degrees here today so massive watering session this evening and had to walk the dog very early.

One of my neighbours had 2 tons of gravel delivered at the front of their house which they needed to shift to the back of the house - husband and wife borrowed several barrows and the wife filled them for the husband to wheel down to the back. NOT the sort of work to be doing this weekend!

Supposed to be even hotter tomorrow so I will be like a wilted flower all day :o and the dog will be shocked to be going out at 7am :rotfl:

Planned roast pork and roasted veg turned into pork salad - way too hot to cook.

And in the middle of this mini heatwave I've been measuring up for curtain linings and room divider curtains for winter! It's a topsy turvy world :rotfl:

the heat in the midlands has been unbearable for me, I have Baltic blood so anything above freezing is tropical to me. The temperature in my sons' room is 26 degrees at the moment, they are so sweaty bless them. The good weather put paid to sorting out my washing pile and hanging it on the line to dry, there are BBQs all over the place. It normally doesn't bother me but when the inconsiderate *bleeps* crack on without telling me then the whole lot has to come in and be washed again, could do without the expense at the moment.

I've been so wiped out from the heat that I've done very little other than the bare minimum.

i`ll tell you what drives me mad and that is all the crops that are grown for biofuel and not for food. It sounds as though the world is going to be very hard pushed to provide enough food for the growing population. Really we should be self sufficient in the uk, except we have far too many people here as well. The answer has got to be contraception and population restrictions and far more allotments available for people, I reckon that most allotments are far more productive than farmed food. Our allotment is only about 960 sq ` and that and the small back garden has kept us in veg since end of march and we only got it 6 months before then

I managed to keep the house cool today, had the blinds half way down and all the s side curtains closed upstairs. I also got rid of 2 toms in a planter as they had like freckles on the leaves, they were only trial plants anyway and I wasn`t struck with them, called alaskan fancy. I had 4 of those completely open to the elements so I have 2 left and they are on the far side from the other toms. I`ll be devastated if blight gets to my others as they are laden with tomatoes.

I managed to process all the charlottes that we picked a few days ago, I did give some away too. They are absolutely wonderful part boiled, cooled and then cut into thin slices with my v slicer and they fried to crisp. The frying took quite a while but very worth it as they ended up like crisps and dh has enjoyed eating them, he went on a 70 mile ride this am so the calories are good for him. I don`t think I`ll grow them next year though as I cannot think of much to do with waxy potatoes except for boiled or potato salad

I went on the lakelnd site this morning as their sale is on and have bought stacks of ecozone washing balls at less than half price and also some lock and locks at about half price :)

Mardatha and the others not seeing the sun, have you thought about getting a SAD lamp? I used to have one and they work very well and then I discovered biobulbs, which give out white light as those cheap yellow energy ones are terrible for the mood

Wasn't today horrible? :( I was down your way today. So many trees have shed their leaves after the storm and it feels very autumnal. Would have been quite depressing where it not for the fact that on a 20 mile drive we didn't see another car/person but did see some seal pups, a golden eagle, a red squirrel and a red deer stag. I'm happy to swap some sun and heat for that. So we ARE lucky really WCS. :D

I am just praying for some better weather for the garden now. I have lots of little tomatoes but they have no hope of ripening if these temperatures remain.
