I guilt myself considerably when I do buy eggs cos I am sorry but I had to go back to caged/value ones.
Hi i remember reading on here that morrisons value eggs are free range, albeit they are imported from holland. also Aldi free range eggs are very good value 87p for 6 medium british ones.

this may help if you look at labels on the boxes http://www.ch1ck.com/egg_labels.html

Reverbe - have you thought about one of those little tabletop washing machines? My MIL had one and it was quite an impressive little thing. Although there's still the problem of drying the clothes.

I know you've mentioned before that space is limited in your flat but my MIL's washer was quite compact.
Ive never heard of them TBH. How on earth do they work?? battery??

That is very good to know. I can't believe how much eggs cost these days - too expensive for us to eat regularly, that's for sure. It's not that we can't afford them, more that I can't see how on earth it can be justified to charge 25p per egg. Staple foods are just too expensive to be staple these days. In fact, I think it's cheaper to have smart price digestive biscuits as a staple than bread, eggs, cheese or lentils!

Anyway, rant over. Great thread - just found it today and very inspiring!
I'll have some cheese please, bob.

Just de-lurking to suggest a hand operated washing machine to Reverbe. I know it doesn't spin the clothes, but might be a way of getting lighter things washed quickly, and if your flat is so warm, I sure things will dry on an airer.

Hope that is a useful suggestion

It keeps getting heavier here too - not sure of the temp - it isn't cold, but banging down and a howling gale to boot. Sick of it now :-(

No they're electric, you just plug them in, they're a bit like the old fashioned twin-tubs but much, much smaller. With my MIL's we'd fill it up with the attached hose (or you can use a bucket/jug) and set it away. If you stand it on your drainer the water drains out into the sink.

There's a youtube video which gives you an idea of how they work and also the size.

There's one a bit cheaper here:

or it may be worth looking on Ebay or asking on freecycle.

Muggy here and theres a yellow shiny thing in the sky - not sure what it is???? I have a courgette - about 2 inches long but it really is a courgette :T Found a squash plant that hadnt got planted out and eaten by bugs, so chucked it in a big empty pot this morning ...and its grown since then..... triffids... taking over. Luckily I also planted some more broad beans cos all I have left is stalks...note to self buy machine gun for bug problem.

Popped in Mr M while waiting for Dd to finish work and got a few whoopsies, bread, cheese couple of cream cakes, you know essentials :rotfl: OH and Dgs ate a cream meringue while we were waiting. OH's appetite seems a bit better now(at last) its true what you say Mardatha regular meals are a necessity when you have an illness. Im making him picnic meals really rather than roast and 3 veg but the addition of HM salsa (without chilli) gives him plenty of veggies.

Am off to light a candle for IOIWE and anyone else who needs support as I have received so much myself from you guys x

    Hi all
A bit of a "fuggy" kind of day, i've tried to keep going but boy has it been an effort. Weather here has been a bit better than you Mardatha and westcoastscot but only just.
Got some time in the garden today mainly weeding but things not looking too bad:).
Thanks for reminder about blight Kittie hope all you tattie and tomato growers down south don't get too hammered by it:(, no sign up here yet so fingers crossed.

I've been mulling all day on how awful it is that people are having to choose between heating etc and food its a bloomin disgrace:mad:, but my moods have flitted from angry to despair throughout the day. I'm sure i will be back to my soap box stance soon though of just being furious:rotfl:.
Hugs to all that need them and a candle is lit here tonight.
