Mutter, mutter - people with ripe strawberries - mutter!! How are you doing it????? Ours are the size of peas and the same colour. The potential's there but that's about it. Oh well I'll just have to be patient.

Looking back on my life I don't really regret anything. You could say I shouldn't have married Ex but then I wouldn't have 4 great kids. DH and I caused quite a scandal then we got together because when we met he was 19 and I was a mother of 4. We've been together 23 years, married 20 this year and again no regrets with the added bonus of DS4. Very few young men would be willing to bring up 5 kids, spending all his wages on us and also trying to help his family business when it was falling apart. I worked part-time in the evening while he went to college and worked for nothing to help his family. We managed with my wage, maintenance and Family Credit. It was hard but we've always been a good team and never wanted a lot of material possessions. He worked so hard and got his BSc while also doing a full time job. He's my hero and I couldn't ask for more. So no regrets only thankful for what I have got rather than dwelling on what I haven't.

Crumbs I got a bit heavy there, so on a lighter note it's actually been a very productive day today. DS fell over his weights a couple of nights ago and smashed his light switch. I got a new one this morning and fitted it while the house was empty and I could turn the mains off. Then decided to tackle the old washing machine that had given up spinning. I'd been putting it off as didn't fancy laying on the garage floor groping in it's innards, but forced myself as the prospect of dehairing the newer one after washing the dog bedding doesn't appeael. Had to do it last week and still ended up with all our clothes covered in fur. Armed with mole wrench and screw driver I set to removing the back plate and hose to find it clogged with a thick mat of fur. It's a wonder it drained at all. It's now spinning again so I'm a very happy bunny.

It's not such good news on the hedgecutters though because despite cleaning them and replacing the brushes there's still something wrong and a friend of DH thinks it could be part of the motor and not worth replacing. DH thinks they're really old - about 4-5yrs whereas I'm really p***** off with how pathetic the build quality is these days. Nothing lasts. Do you pay more for an expensive model in the hope they'll last or get cheap one's and just keep replacing them? DH very pessimistic and says 'nothing' is built to last so don't bother paying more. Will have to think about it and start saving.

Good luck to those with exams and job interviews. DD applied for a new job too and is horrified to find that they expect her to do a presentation too. Don't envy her one bit.

    Reverbe (((hugs)))

    Happy birthday Jedi

I do agree. I still expect expensive purchases to last a life-time despite recent poor experiences with fridges and kettles in particular. Last summer I thought my lawn-mower was a goner and I said to a friend, "My bl00min lawn mower's broken and I've only had it thirty years." She thought I was making a joke but I wasn't, I wasn't.

Choclare what size and make canner did you get? mine came to just over £100 for it and postage. It is a presto 23QT. I decided that was the heaviest I would be able to lift when full.

Hi grandma, yes mine is a Presto 23 quart as well. I'm obviously remembering the price badly - I thought it was about £80-£90 but I am sure it was almost doubled by the cost of postage if you bought it on ebay.

Anyway, as I say, it was "free". That's to say, it probably cost about 80 DOLLARS as I generally find they swap dollars for pounds on ebay but we bartered for it, so it didn't cost so much!
  • And Happy Birthday to Jedi :j:j:jfrom me too.

I was going to ask if anyone else sometimes feels like they're trying a lot harder / doing more than their OH in the way of trying to improve finances or generally stop themselves going down the fiscal pan?
    !
Yes totally here with my male flatmate. He is the one who has 50k of debt and will still buy ready meals, expensive foods, goes to the pub every Sunday for a sunday lunchtime drink and seems to find the money to come in blotto at 8 or 9pm..

He has a job but its very poorly paid and I cannot understand where he finds the money for these things.. at the same time as he keeps saying we might lose the flat one day:mad:

    Happy Birthday Jedi btw xx:beer:
