I've used up the ends of the loaf and made mini bread and butter pud. I put the mixture in silicon cake cases and put them in with the roasted veg.

Really pleased as that's a week and half 'puds' for DD's packed lunch.

:D I have lost another pound this week. I'm not trying to lose weight (although I should be) I think it's just the constant hard work of living like this. My kitchen is my home right now. I spend a huge proportion of my time in here at the moment. Also cutting down on meat, upping our veg and pulses and not buying in biscuits, crisps, snacks etc must be helping too.

Off to go look at the oldstyle losing weight thread because I'm going to keep this up. 2lb over two weeks without really trying is good going for me :D

fingers crossed todays bread is a winner, I can't take much more disappointment and failiure...... mardatha's recipe :)

Mr M was full of ninja bargain hunters, I hate it when they crowd round the poor member of staff especially when its my Ds:mad: I just wandered back when they had all gone and picked up 10 bagels for 45p, 2 lots of potted beef for 19p each instead of 1.22  when did potted beef get so expensive??? Couple of small french sticks 19p each and I was quite happy.

CBHM I think you are doing so well, what a positive attitude and congrats on getting a grant Im sure you will make it go far - I got DS to top up her electric meter recently when she got some money she was owed, it makes such a difference.

Chocclare am looking forward to trying your revised recipe it sounds good, as do all your recipes. the pancakes will certainly become a favourite, do you think yoghurt would work as well as soured cream?

Right am off to snuggle under a blanket and knit - seems to be a common idea tonight, Still wet and chilly here :o

Peppermint leaves are much better for this. Crush a leaf to extract the juice and oils and rub onto the area. Probably acts as a local anaesthetic. Though, if you're out and about, dock is much easier to find :)

    Hello all

Sorry just catching up with the thread so there will be more than one post!

Peppermint DOES have anaesthetic properties as well as the oil in the leaves having anti inflammatory properties. However please do not use if you are pregnant as this oil is contraindicated :D

Seems to be a common response today! Ditto the knitting.

Sorted out my drying onions and spread them on a large gravel tray to keep them dry. And read up about when to harvest garlic - I've got about 4 weeks to go and the top bits should look like raffia.

Weather is a bit depressing but I'm grateful for the rain really as my veggies need it. Had a success yesterday - I ate home grown mange tout - just a few as a snack but a definite mood lifter as I've never been successful at growing any sort of peas before. :T

Must get round to doing a meal plan for next week - I find it's one of the best budgeting tools and it certainly ensures I don't waste anything because I check the contents of the kitchen to see what I already have in. Will look at Weezl's site for inspiration too.

Thanks for the info on courgettes - think I'll rehydrate a handful each time I make a stew/soup/tomato sauce. If that works well I might start growing them again as you can grow loads of food value (ie calories/vitamins, etc) for virtually nothing.

Anyway, not bored any more now I'm on here. Thanks guys

:wave:Hello to all the newbies and those returning

Its chucking it down here in Lincolnshire (hello to all of you that live in the county) but to be honest we really really need it! Have my lovely FIL with us this weekend and have been chatting to him about cooking a liitle bit more for himself. He eats loads when he is here but he likes home cooked meals, and tends to live on ready meals when back home (he lives a couple of hours away from us).

Any suggestions to get him to cook a little more would be gratefully received :D

Strawbs are coming along nicely and the potatoes should be good to be harvested soon, so looking forward to that. The heating may have to go on for an hour tonight as it is really cold with the wind and rain but have the insulation grant man coming on Tuesday to look at how little insulation we have (hopefully he will tell us we need more and that a grant will cover it.) New boiler is being ordered next week  but the up side is that the engineer reckons we will save 1/3rd on our heating bills as the new one will be so much more efficient. Given the price of oil that sounds good to me, just have to get over the disruption of them siting the boiler inside and digging up the floorboards to connect it to the hot water. Still at least it will be done in July and not November!

Have a lovely evening everyone ;)

Just gave up today and put the heating on, everyone is freezing and moaning about the cold here.

I've just re-done my monthly budget and added a little more to the gas budget, it's had to come off the holiday fund but I am just so sick of the carp weather and the cold is making me miserable.

I figure the weather has changed for good and I'd just better get on with cool wet summers and baltic winters... really flippin cheery.

We have decided that as there is less money for holidays we will have more picnic days out when the weather is good, so I am about to plan to have stuff in the freezer to make a picnic at a moments notice and not have to waste a good weather day shopping for food to take with us.

All change of plan stuff, but what can you do?
