I am sitting here just browsing and typed `food storage` into google. Then I clicked on the string of photos and you can get no end of `survival` sites that way. It is interesting allright but why the heck do they want to store foodstuff for 30 years. What on earth are they so afraid of?
here is just one example that I got

heck I feel like a child with my nose pressed to the window as it is pouring down and oh so bleak. The fire is on and I am dressed in winter clothes and I am bored

After SO LONG with nothing but sun sun sun, DD had a showjumping event this morning and - of course - it is TIPPING it down. DH and I were soaked through completely - literally down to my underwear and I was wearing what is laughably called waterproof gear. DD and horse also drenched but at least they were moving about...
Anyway, we are now home, in warm, dry clothes and the stoves are lit in both the downstairs sitting rooms. I am knitting a jumper with a blanket on my knees watching Sherlock on DVD on my laptop; DH is asleep on the sofa opposite; DD is watching the Simpsons next door and DS is revising for his A levels and/or lying on his bed playing on his Playstation (meh, he's 19, I'm not checking on him every 5 minutes at his age). DD has just made me tea and I AM NOT MOVING FROM HERE.
The rain is horizontal outside. The chickens can take their chances - the henhouse door is open and if they're too stupid to go in, then they'll just have to get wet.
I could be doing lots of things. I am not. I am going to watch the end of my DVD now.
Have a nice Sunday, everyone!
Glad those who have tried them liked the pancakes btw! They are sweeter than I usually make, but the kids and DH went through them in nanoseconds so I'll do them again.0 -
chocclare, sounds lovely. All snug like autumn, I do like autumn but not on a Sunday in June! Anyway. It is what it is so I am going to join you in the snug stakes:
finish off my revision for now
do more dishes
make shepherds pie
finish ironing
eat shepherds pie
bath kiddies
hop in bath myself
wrap up warm
continue DD's crocheted scarf.
dh make me a cup of tea (and probably put the heating on for a little while tonight I think, is that wrong!?)0 -
Just went to get another cup of tea and remembered I'd left a few key ingredients out of my lamb recipe, so if you are going to make it, check it again! Sorry!0

I'm really bored today! Mum and dad are working today (they're wedding photographers) so I'm on pup sitting duty! Means I've been able to dry washing in their conservatory tho and mum has left me a Christmas dinner for tea! My dad and me had flu at Christmas so it got frozen!
Wrist is still painful so not crocheting still urgh! Tried to knit the other night and realised that I had forgotten how to cast on lol!
We grew courgettes last year and mum made it into ratatoue (can't spell sorry!). Managed to find lots of long sticks for my peas when I was out with the pup earlier. He's in the bad books because he keeps trying to eat my mum's cucumber plant. He ate the chives the other day and the salad last week!
Did anyone see Jamie Oliver on the one show the other night? He was talking about pickling cucumbers so I'm gonna give it a go later.
I'm reading how I lived for a pound a day by kath Kelly at the moment. I've read it two or three times, really gives you good ideas for stretching your cash.
I have a feeling I might have an expensive dental bill coming up! I'm supposed to by having a filling on a molar in three weeks which is gonna cost 60 quid (I can claim back 30 off insurance I think) but I've managed to chip one of my molars in half! Its on the same side but have no idea if it's the same tooth, it'll be just my luck that it's a different one!
Anyway enough jabbering got to take pup out before f1 is on!Aug £10 a day £0/£10000 -
ive warmed up at last, only because ive cooked a sunday dinner, done a large pile of ironing and now im making a cake , i think now ive moved away from the cooker i will soon be cold again
funkystarfish live for a pound a day sounds interesting , id like to read that

I'm in the bored brigade as well today. dh has taken ds2 to a Birthday party, so I'm at home with the other three. dd1 and ds1 have been playing on the Wii - they haven't used it in ages because I'm mean and nasty and think they should be playing outside when the weather is nice! dd2 has been mostly sleeping on my lap - not sure what's going on with her, teeth maybe? She's got slightly sticky eyes, a slightly snotty nose & one heck of a foul mood today, so I've given in to the inevitable & am just sitting here snuggling with her & knitting. NEARLY finished my jumper now, just picking up stitches at the bottom to make it a touch longer. I'm going to light the fire after dinner I think.
Oh - Kittie - I'm enjoying your links btw - I like reading this kind of thing - I like sifting the good ideas from the conspiracy-theory panic-inducing stuff0
