  • I either fry and freeze my peppers or just slice them and freeze on a tray before putting them in a bag. This stops them from sticking together. They are a bit soggy when defrosted and no good for salads but great for cooking. You do not need to defrost them either just throw them in frozen.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

kittie, sure you've done it by now but Moroccan lamb ekes out your meat!

Fry off an onion, add your meat (cut into [small] cubes) and brown. If you have a rosemary bush in your garden, now would be the time to chuck in a few sprigs. If not, add some dried rosemary and stir. Now add a chopped carrot and a tin of chickpeas (or you may be super OS and have some cooked chickpeas to hand in the freezer?!!). If you happen to have a sweet potato in the fridge (often very cheap in Aldi's) then add that, diced, to your mixture. Stir in a spoonful of garlic and ginger (I get mine out of a jar but you can use crushed garlic and grated ginger). Sprinkle over a spoonful each of cumin and coriander, a bit of chilli powder and stir. Now add a tin of chopped tomatoes, bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, until the the vegetables are tender. You can also add some chopped dried apricots if you have any. You may need to add a little water but you don't want a runny sauce, so let it reduce till it's nice and thick. Serve on rice or couscous.

  • Lindy Loo, they will keep for quite a while, similar to other frozen veg I think.
Thanks for mentioning this Mrs VP - I have some whoopsied peppers and forgot I meant to freeze them today.

Having quite an OS day - made ChocClare's pancakes this morning, v. good, made loads so I will store
    and possibly freeze.
Looked for fabric yesterday to make seat pads for kitchen chairs - when did it get to be so expensive? Bought some fom a CS, but actually I've decided just to attach tapes to some old cushions, and make a couple of new cushion covers from a remnant I have already - the new piece I bought is nice quality and would make curtains for a small window or could even be used to recover dining chairs. Coveted new plastic tablecover material (sad or what) but at 11.99 ametre decided to leave it in the shop.

Charlies Aunt, hope you have a good result from your scan.

Appalled at price of sweeties these days - 45p for a small tube of boiled sweets! Anyone remember old money? There were 9 in the tube - a shilling each sweetie! Think I'll have to go and have a lie down now.

ooh thanks chocClaire, sounds lovely and I`ll make it later
  • Thanks ChocClare for another excellent recipe: I've got some meat in the freezer left over from a Sunday roast that I'm going to try and stretch using your suggestion.

OS happiness: fresh soft boiled eggs from my hens for lunch :)

Right back to work - I'm meant to be typing a report and am definitely into displacement activity at the moment.

lol I too am the master of displacement activity. Baking bread is much more important than revising for Tuesday's exam....... but I am procrastinating too as I'm here on oldstyle and doing neither!

thanks Mardatha for the bread recipe. Plain and simple without using any eggs! :)

I am sitting here just browsing and typed `food storage` into google. Then I clicked on the string of photos and you can get no end of `survival` sites that way. It is interesting allright but why the heck do they want to store foodstuff for 30 years. What on earth are they so afraid of?

here is just one example that I got

heck I feel like a child with my nose pressed to the window as it is pouring down and oh so bleak. The fire is on and I am dressed in winter clothes and I am bored
