7 week wonder - Don't let it get you down! I know what you mean about plodding along and it would be easy to just give up completely, but I am a stubborn bu**er so that is never going to happen! I work in a job that takes me around the supermarkets, and I have been looking at the price of basics stuff recently I bought pasta at *sda about 6 weeks ago at a price of 9p per pack, which was great, but this week the price was 32p! In S**sbugs yesterday the price for the same pasta is about 18p, so will be buying it from there as soon as I get paid, and buying enough for a good few months supply because the only way is up as far as the price of food goes! Which supermarkets do you have nearby? I can always check out the price of something around the various shops if you like?

7 week wonder it is worth keeping track of good deals because supermarkets tend to have cycles of reductions and after a while you get to know when something is due to go on special offer.
Some Americans are really good at keeping what they call a grocery price book see here and here. There are loads on the net.

    Hello Clarienne welcome.

Charlies-aunt hope your scan is ok and you feel better soon.

Since my last post I have bathed said hen's bum. She was most unappreciative, I have to say. I'm sure my head is bruised where she hit me with her wing! I've also hung some washing up, done a load of washing up, emptied all the rubbish and recycling and put some milk and yoghurt in a flask in the hope of finding more yoghurt in the morning. I feel to have redeemed an otherwise unproductive day. It's going to pour down tomorrow so I shall probably do more housework. :(

I haven't been to asda for a while but I am shocked at the price of their pasta now - almost a fourfold increase in just a couple of months! I bet Mr Walmart isn't tightening his belt. Or David Camoron (spelling mistake deliberate) for that matter.

Carry on, ladies, carry on! We the old-stylers of Britain shall never be beaten when it comes to bagging a bargain or saving a penny!:rotfl:

Hi all, have been on holiday and I am now trying to catch up. Only got as far as page 123 so a long way to go but wanted to share about something from last week before I went.

My hubby bought me a Groupon voucher for a posh hairdressers for my birthday. I was really pleased that he had got a bargain and 'caught' some of my ways. In the past he has spent far too much on me. Anyway, I had saved it for the day before my hols and funnily enough on the radio that afternoon they were talking about Groupon stocks going up. The radio presenter gave an explanation of what Groupon was about and said he had used it despite being skeptical at first and how good it was, but that when used as a gift it made you look like a cheapskate. The other person made a joke about how if 'she' knows you well enough she would know not to expect anything much.

I just thought how different I must be. I was delighted with my gift. I would have been gutted if hubby had bought me a full price voucher from there. I would never normally pay their prices. The Groupon was about a third of the price.

Also, the hairdresser said that they hadn't noticed any downturn in business. Do we live on a different planet?

The time GQ was on she was at her parents, she was on the messy thread saying she was helping her parents. Geez i sound like a stalker, i was reading the thread and there she was!

I noticed flour has gone up incredibly 72p for 1.5kg basic in sainsbugs on thursday night .

I'm so jealous of all you my tomato plants are a whopping 7 inches tall and been outside since early may. Shocking, they haven't grown much at all.
The lettuce well the weathers killed that dead all right.

Just wondered why cats are suddenly i.e fat knacker, the cat who's never in. Just looked outside and its blooming freezing. The kids have put blankets back on there beds. But i refuse to put the heating on, i means for pits sake its June! Oh and just found the skinny min in the bathroom cabinet curled up in the middle of the toilet rolls purring away. Strange animals.

I've had the living room fire on low all day, it's freezing and I am sick to death of being cold.

I can justify the expense a little because everyone is at home.

Im sat here with 3 layers on as its so chilly. Am contemplating a hot water bottle. Dgs is here and has decided to start walking, he tried it a few weeks ago and didnt like it. However he only does it when no ones looking and walks up behind you then laughs - sooo cheeky :rotfl:

I have finally sorted my arm out, this morning after very little sleep in 5 nights I took a 500mg ibuprofen instead of what turns out to be 50mg diclofenac. within an hour the pain had decreased to a bearable level. Im now more like my usually self thank goodness. Went to Mr S and was shocked again at the cost of food. Shopped wisely and seem to have done well. Tried the American pancakes - wow they were lovely, and Dd arrived just in time to eat some.

Need to find somewhere to go with Dgs tomorrow that costs nothing and realised the forecast says rain :o May just have a picnic indoors.

Monday will be baking day as I have lots of dried fruit and an empty shelf in the freezer. Need to keep occupied as Oh is not doing well at the moment and is sleeping a lot - which won't do him any harm as it makes a change. I think sometimes you need a couple of days sleeping to recharge.
