Disaster with my bread. It wasn't cooked in the middle. Really upset and annoyed at myself. So turning the heat down slightly and leaving in slighty longer. There's another loaf rising as I type
Anyone able to tell me what fruit stops jelly from setting. I know somethings do I just can't remember.
The wormery has been emptied into the potato bags. A home made experiment that didn't work is at least going to be some use.
Had a fledging crow land in our garden. The poor little thing wasn't strong enough to fly. On it's second attempt couldn't clear the washing line, hit it and then went into the fence. On third attempt it flew straight into 'sunburst design' on the decking fence. It got it's head stuckDH removed it and popped it onto the fence (with crows squaking and circling above!) It flew off down onto the ground outside. I hope it was ok
Pineapple is definitely one, I'm sure there's more0 -
Mrs Ramsey, and Mr Churchill taught Latin, Frau Smit was lovely for German, but then in 3rd year I had Mr Turvey; Mrs Ramsey also taught French and RE I know who you mean for the other French lady with the blonde hair Mrs Brede, I did GCE and CSE as they weren't sure if I'd pass and I got C at GCE and 1 at CSE so 2 French quals.
Kroboc...that was the woman!! And Mrs Brede. She really didnt like me. I only got a CSE 3 in French. We had some um, unique teachers!!!I remember Miss Gay for business studies. Now she was odd.:D I cant remember much of my Latin at all these days. If linguists are odd what the hell does that make us mathematicians??!?!!!
:D
I have just come back from Morrisons and I can confirm I have spent more in there than I did in Waitrose!!!! The value UHT milk has gone up to 52p :eek::eek: Moo was on offer again so I bought 12 as it was 3 for £1. I bought quite alot of fish and all the well known stuff is expensive but I bought a poulting fillet. Has anyone ever had any? I also noticed that the price of silverside now is more than topside!!!! Oh and Allinsons bread flour the 3kg one is £2 whereas the1.5kg one is £1.78. You really have to be careful and alert when shopping these days.0 -
Freudianslip - It's pineapple that stops jelly setting as far as I can remember. It's an enzyme it contains that stops the jelly setting.
Been to Morrisons this after noon as needed petrol & the main petrol station in town has been closed for 3 months now. They had an offer on that if you spend £40 you get 6p/litre off petrol so decided to stock up on a few things.
Bought some tins of tuna to add to my store. They are selling 4 packs of Princes for £5.00 for 2 packs (8 cans)
Also got a 12 pack of their own make loo roll as 12 rolls for price of 9 and some Surf liquitabs that were on offer.
Had been trying to resist buying more stuff but like rest of you on here I am starting to get jittery about the rising prices. It will be used eventually so it's not money wasted.
Been dry for most of the day here but have had some heavy showers.0 -
[QUOTE=sammy_kaye18;4436770
* 2 x dragon trees
* Rhubarb plant (somewhat dead looking I might add)
* Blueberry Plant
hoping I will be able to save my rhubarb and the blueberries look like they need a bit of TLC but hoping I can bring them round with a bit of love and some fresh compost and new pot etc.[/QUOTE]
Sammy you need ericasus[sp?] compost for the blueberry bush aslo it'll do better with any rain water you can give it seeing as it's an acid loving plant, good luck with the rhubard, and what are dragon tree's? I'v never heared of them.£71.93/ £180.000 -
If you marinate pork in pineapple juice it almost turns to pate.

We used to have pineapple and jelly when I was younger and it always seemed to set ok
Thanks for the mention of kemps will have to have a look when I've ran my stash down!
Gutted today - think I'm getting some kind of repetitive strain from doing so much crochet which keeps flaring up. Got my wrist strapped up (4 quid for a Tubey grip!?!) so can't crochet or sew yuk! Tried to teach myself to crochet left handed with you tube vids but not happening!Aug £10 a day £0/£10000 -

pouting is lovely, not too dissimilar from cod in look texture and taste
Thanks for the pineapple heads up.
To not be able to crochet :eek: I would n't be able to do it left handed either. I'm self taught via you tube and that took some doing with my 'natural' hand.0 -
Hi all...not been on ..been busy..i like my simple frugal life..but i hardly ever get to sit down ...nevermind..it will keep me fit.
Well i have made some cherry jam..hope it was worth the staining on my fingers and hands..it looks good and smells really good too...i made some strawberry and raspberry sauce cubes..ideal for popping on top of icecreams..cooked a ham joint,made a tea loaf,made french toast,finished my first bit if knitting...a dolly blanket for iris's dolls...and have started another for fern's dollies...frozen almost 4 kilos of gooseberries..hate them personally but the jam is gorgeous...froze some separate so hubs can have his crumbles and pies
I have been given some birthday money from my parents..so i have decided to buy a dehydrator and either a waffle maker or an ice cream maker..not sure which yet but will look on web for a good one..
Hubby and ds went to the allotment today and got some fresh lettuce,radishes,spring onions and had a look at our new potatoes..they are not very good..but we have time yet so will wait..they will taste so much sweeter for waiting.
My lovely dd has got into crafting and is really keen so i'm encouraging her in that direction...her chap is working 2 jobs to keep them all afloat..thing is she is lonely in the evenings..so along comes mum and suggests a hobby...so she is card making..got a cheap kit off fleabay and away she goes...i have decided to take up cross stitch..
Have been shopping around for deals..so i can stock up on basics..i got the smartprice cereals in bags and checked the sell by dates..this time next year..so they have gone in my food store and will be added to over the next few months..me and hubby have decided to spend any spare money on food and prepping the house for winter..not much more to do so hopefully all our hard work throught his year will pay off..seem to be doing nothing but preparing for winter and fighting the rising food prices.
must ask a quickie ..does anyone have a salad dressing that i can make myself..needs to be quite simple as hubby has dodgy tummy if anything spicy goes in it lol..
right got to go..tummy is rumbling
take care all you lovely ladies

Redlady_1 - I'm a linguist who gave up the idea of being a teacher and became an accountant instead! No hope for me then
Bucketed it down here earlier but nice this afternoon so have repotted some tomatoes and squash and given everything its weekly feed. One or two tomatoes are going that yellowy-green colour that means they are starting to ripen. :T
Then made really OS/MSE mushroom soup - homegrown onion and garlic, foraged and dehydrated field mushrooms from last year, plus some bargain mushrooms from the market earlier this week. Tastes really good, if I say so myself :j
Now.... what can I do with last year's dehydrated courgettes? The courgette eater is no longer here. Suppose they'll have to be added a handful at a time to soups. Not even growing them this year but can't bear to waste all the ones I've got. Ideas anyone?
Have a good Saturday evening, whatever you are doing
