I have just spoken to the head at the gate. She was so defensive before I even started, and I wonder why I don't think chirping up is a good idea. Upshot is the dinner lady is a very nice lady, lovely with children and would never do something on purpose to upset a child. I said very calmly that I understand that but she has inadvertently upset my little girl and from now on could she be left to eat as much or as little as she pleases. I'm nice with it too, I don't know why they have to be so uppity.[/QUOTE]

If you get no luck, you could try to speak with the educational welfare officer for your area.
We had one who came and visited after I took my 2 out to homeschool them and we discussed the problems they had both had in school. She said part of her job was to discuss this sort of thing with parents and school while the children were still pupils but we had never even heard of her existence up until that point.
Your local council will know who the officer is for your area.

Hello to all the newbies! I noticed over 400 people on the os board when I signed in this aft! I think as it get tougher our numbers are just going to keep growing...and more brains to pick is a good thing!
I am going to start stocking up on candles for winter as I like to light several tea lights on an evening. Not only does it make the room feel cosy it actually does help raise the temperature too! So I need to get to ikea-need several more hours in a day me thinks!
I spent most of the morning at the docs and have been put on a long course of antibiotics, which I dont really like the idea of, but I have to go down this route to try and help my skin before he is willing to see if there are other causes for my spottyness :(. I am not convinced a course of tablets aimed at teenage acne is going to help me as I know I have pcos ...and one of the problems that come with is is being spotty! What I dont really understand is why he has only given me 6 weeks course and they take 6 weeks to work (insert confused smiley here) sorry not at all os but on my mind never the less.
I am still in the mean time drinking a lot more water etc and so we shall see if it all helps :)

I wonder if you can still buy carpet squares to put down over laminate for winter.....might help keep the room warmer! Not that I am old enough to have had carpet squares but have heard many people mention them!! I have a concrete floor which is pretty cold and carpet on top is chilly -but over the top of well insulated laminate sounds a good idea to me .

edit: when I say carpet squares I dont mean the tiles.. I mean the large pieces of carpet that are made to cover the majority of a room whilst leaving the edges clear , like a huge rug! People used to lay them over wooden or tiled floors and paint around the edges etc!

Oh, FS, your issue with the dinner lady, it's tricky , isn't it? I don't think it's her role either, but she probably had good intentions. Sounds lile your little girl will be much happier with a lunch box. I used to find it cheaper than school dinners - sandwich, juicebox or squash, piece of fruit and cereal type bar (you could make flapjack or small cakes), anything else she likes - ditto for OH.

Thing is it IS the staffs job to encourage children to eat and to reduce wasted food.At my school all the children have to sit for 20 mins to eat and we expect it all to be eaten, dinners or packed lunches.
there is a choice so most kids do not have things they really dislike on the plate.

I use Kohlrabi grated as coleslaw. Much nicer than cabbage.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Making them miss their whole play time and have them sit on their own at 6 year old isn't really an acceptable way of doing it though.

I'm sure my attitude will change when she throws away my hard slaved over homemade cheese scone and jam tarts from her packed lunch though ;)

Bertie you can buy remnants and end-of-rolls at carpet shops, they usually have them up the back against the far wall.

Well the kohl rabi is in and is growing but I have no idea when it should be harvested. Do you just boil them or are they mashed?

I have currently gone into flap mode about my exam tomorrow so have come away for a while before I lose the plot, my confidence and even FK (who sits on my books and watches me. A very disturbing trait she has picked up!) FK for the newbies is my cat, Fat Knacker!

Like lots of us I store a lot of stuff in my boarded loft. When I went up there today I found chewed/shredded paper and a candle has been chewed:eek: I'm assuming it's mice and I wondered if anyone has been afflicted and what you used to get rid of them. I have a cat but I couldn't shove her up there and leave her;) so i guess it'll have to be poison or the like. Please can I ask for some advice?

My sons 7ft snake escaped July 2010,we looked everywhere and couldnt find it.:eek:There was a hole behind the toilet so assumed he had gone down there,we have a floored loft and usually have mice in the winter but not last winter.:DThe snake turned up in my sons bed in March,he said he was dropping off to sleep when he felt something move so he froze and it happened again:rotfl:.He threw back the covers and there was Harold (the snake)he grabbed it and put it back in its tank.:D..............I can highly recommend a very large snake under your floor boards,:p.
