Good evening! Gosh I'm toiling with my new resolution of keeping up with this thread: so many posts and pretty much all of them containing good useful stuff.
Hello to the newbies - especially Westlothianlass, I guess living where I do, I'm a mid-lothian missis!
I'm still scheming on my save 12% campaign. I reckon I can do the washing less frequently (I rarely have a full load) and do it at 30 deg rather than 40 deg. And this evening I heated my supper (left over morrocan casserole) using the microwave rather than the hob so that should help.
For the first time ever - all four hens laid eggs today: I must admit I'm toiling with my "use all my eggs" campaign. I've made egg mayo for tomorrow''s sandwiches, but the eggs are still mounting up faster than I can use them.
And your challenge fellow OSers: what can I bake that will use up a packet of sugar free @lpen muesli? It's been lurking in the back of the cupboard for about 6 months: I can't stand the stuff as cereal, but there must be a nice recipe that uses it!0 -
use it instead of porridge in twinks, muesli twinks are delicious. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

Loadsa posts the last couple of days....
Reet....the query re LETS. Read up about it at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Local_Exchange_Trading_Systems
www.letslink.co.uk
and dont forget - theres nowt to stop anyone working out all sorts of variations on a theme on it. People could set up their own street only or workplace only scheme if they want. The basic idea was designed to be versatile - and it has proven to be so in operation.
...and for those who start with "What skill can I offer to other people then?" - thats a very very common query from peeps on considering it - until its explained that actually its that versatile that it can operate at a dual level. That is - actual skills as such being offered on the one hand BUT on the other hand that we all of us need little household favours at some point (eg watering plants, pet-sitting, shopping for someone who is temporarily too ill to do so, housework for someone who is temporarily too ill to do so) - at which point I can always see a little lightbulb lighting up in peeps' heads - as they instantly realise "Well - yes- we all DO need things like that at intervals.....and I could do that....or I would want that...".0 -
My sons 7ft snake escaped July 2010,we looked everywhere and couldnt find it.:eek:There was a hole behind the toilet so assumed he had gone down there,we have a floored loft and usually have mice in the winter but not last winter.:DThe snake turned up in my sons bed in March,he said he was dropping off to sleep when he felt something move so he froze and it happened again:rotfl:.He threw back the covers and there was Harold (the snake)he grabbed it and put it back in its tank.:D..............I can highly recommend a very large snake under your floor boards,:p.
Funnily enough we DO HAVE a snake! A 7ft black rat snake and you're right, he'd be perfect for catching them but I can't stand the thought of him being loose when I'm asleep:o In all seriousness I'm thinking of getting one of your sonic/electromagnetic (Ithink that's right) to get rid of them. My only question is, we're semi-detached so will my devise just drive them into next doors loft? My OH thinks they must already have them anyway!0 -
re onions
I'm just finishing off the last few that were hung for this winter (i.e. tied up and hung in a wooden shed). I lost some kelsae which are a bit temperamental, but the rest are only just starting to sprout. That is why I'm thinking about lagging the shed up a bit with old quilts. I've frozen the last few llbs to keep me going until the winter onions are ready very soon.0 -

Have had a very busy week and am only just catching up.
Re woodburners. The news of the price hikes has spurred us on the get ours installed. We have an inglenook in the kitchen which currently serves as a log store for the living room fire and there is a back boiler there so that would save massively on heating and water as we have access to free wood. Just need to find the right one now as we only have one (very expensive) supplier/fitter locally.
Re windfarms. I'm of the opinion that they are necessary and nimbyism has no place when it comes to environmental advancement. We have lots of wind farms here and lots of locals have fitted them at their properties and are selling energy back to the grid. Solar panels are less popular due to the lack of sun.
Talking of which, it's still raining and still cold though we have a sunset tonight over the bay so maybe things will improve tomorrow.0
