haven't had time to catch up on the thread yet but I hope everyone is plodding along best they can!
I really need to get back into the OS ways. Finding it really difficult at the moment, really got into it when I was unemployed but now I'm working 40 hours and having to leave most of it to the OH who is still job searching and it's a bit of a struggle. Both of us would love to swap places but unfortunately jobs are few and far between it seems. Really mad at myself as I bought washing powder for the first time in nearly a year last week and have got hooked on the smell, need to find some nicer smelling oils to put in my laundry gloop I think.

Am looking forward to getting back into the thread and into the money saving ways!

    Scary stuff redlady!

I need to get a grip on looking after myself and eating better etc and am wondering if any of you loverlys have any home made skin care tips. My skin has become incredibly greasy latley and want to make something as a mask/cleanser. I have very sensitive skin and shop baught creams etc tend to bring me out in spots/make matters worse!
I am also looking at improving my diet/and that of the kids as I have got a bit lazy and with the high cost of anything remotley healthy its quite hard at the moment, not to mention I am time poor during the week due to my second cleaning job which happens to be at tea time. So any ultra quick healthy cheap meals you can suggest would really help as I need some insparation. One of our favs is already jacket spuds with various toppings or fajitas (which are expensive due to cost of chicken!). My ds1 also need to gain weight as he is like a string bean so I need to feed him up too!
As always hugs to all (())and have a good day everyone!

Am sure other people will be along Bertie with some good meal ideas, I make pork burgers with stuffing for my kids as they are easy and go in the oven so great for tea. You can make them up beforehand so they are all ready. Fried rice is another good one, always quick and you can add any meat or extra veg that you have around.

Face masks you can find loads of ideas here:

http://beauty.about.com/od/skinflaws/a/facemasks.htm I always like the oatmeal and yoghurt ones :)

on the grand scale of things then I think I'd be a lot more concerned about the fact that the vast majority of people live on this Planet like there's no tomorrow (leastways - so one would think on analysing their lifestyles....)

How very true. I keep wondering if this is a recession or if we have simply woken up to reality?
I just simply refuse to sit in a scared little heap all the time about all the ways the "less enlighteneds" might find to disrupt/destroy the lives of the rest of us.

Darn it, I think you've got a point. I was going to brood all day about the creep towards euthanasia because the elderly are 'A Problem'. Now I'll have to try brooding on two things at once and my memory is not what it was...

    What was I saying?

Mancbird - your question about Costco. When we joined a few years back anyone working in public service could have a membership card (eg police, fire service, NHS etc) - might be worth finding their website and seeing what their criteria is now.

CBHM - tough times indeed for you at present - but living in a hostel has to be better than where you were before. Regards ways of making the most of your money, you could also look on the Debtfree wannabe forum for the Jolly June NSD thread - you set yourself a challenge to achieve a certain number of days in the month where no money leaves your purse or bank account, and you try to hit that target or exceed it, with the encouragement of your fellow NSD gang members. It's a friendly thread like this one is, and you'll be more than welcome on there.

(If you have already checked in there, ignore my nonsensical babblings!)

Hi Ella. Nice to see you back. I thought of your user name the other day when I opened a jar of Nut*lla (bought on special offer months ago and sadly past it's BB date, not that you'd notice :o) It's been a long time since you last posted I wondered if we'd hear from you again.

    :rotfl:...ummm...Charis...do I know you?:rotfl:..sorrees me lass...o'course I remember you:)

'Tis a mixed blessing isn't it that there does seem to be mission creep...but then who wants to be in a generation where life is artificially prolonged when its "Life - but not as we know it" and you and I are in the 2nd generation at risk of that...

Anyways....sheepskin boots (as 'tis colder here again today) and back out into t'fray I go....:)

That's weird! I agree that's what is says on the website - but our local Costco seems to let just about anyone who is in a job become a member. Certainly NHS and University employees are members, OH works for an engineering company and we joined just by showing a pay-slip and a utility bill; and there was a big promotion on at our local shopping centre/mall where they seemed to be allowing anyone to join. I'd give your local branch a call and see what they say!

:( feeling in a right mood oldstyling friends. Every meal i'm producing is lack lustre mainly because the ingredients I'm using are really cheap. Going to have a meal of eggs and chips tomorrow because I know that can't be a let down. (Bet I burn the eggs!)

I'm frustrated because there's a battle between priorities, cheap is top of the list but because of that it means that the other values that are very important to me are getting left behind (only natural items, organic, locally sourced and enjoyment in providing for my family)

I don't know what the answer is apart from grow more of my own in the future so the money can be spent on better quality ingredients.

I'm loving the sacks of flour, some saving there plus some I've seen with free P&P (I think when I glanced) over 24KG's. Thanks for sharing.

I will go and sit in the corner and continue mumbling how life is unfair all by myself. I really dislike myself when I get like this.

I just had a minor meltdown when I looked at the tiny pile of carp that Asda charged me 30 quid for !
