The Costco flour is a good price, if I thought I could store it then I'd get it. re weather, yes. We need a giant mixer for the UK to spread & even out the extremes. Climate change isnt doing any of us much good.0

laineyc, I am growing marketmore outside and they are starting to climb up canes. I just made the usual system like for runner beans ie 6 feet tall and tied at the top with a short cane going across all the tops. I was thinking about letting it run on the ground but the cucs grow straighter if they hang down
This talk about american food prices is making me think that grain should absolutely not be grown for biodiesel, to me it is obscene that people cannot afford food because some is used for fuelling cars
I have been enjoying a book called `the other boleyn girl` by phillipa gregory. It was a present and has been on my shelf for months, I thought it wouldn`t be much good but it`s a great holiday type, relaxing read. I have ordered more by her at 1p from amazon. I love the chance of getting 1p books. I have a few now and especially like the practical ones that were first printed early 70s. Tht is so my era
I was just thinking about where I got my os skills from and realised that it wasn`t really from my mother. I was the oldest and a girl with 6 younger siblings, so it was a case of mum teaching me cooking basics and then I just got on with it and was very competent by 11. Mum was an excellent knitter and seamstress so I learnt those from her. Crafts I taught myself. Being frugal was always in my nature, well no wonder when it was needs must, so it must be deeply ingrained in me.
Does anyone remember clothkits? I wonder why that company faded away. My children lived in them and we all loved them, so hard wearing and individual. What a good idea that was, all the sowing bits in one complete pack and usually fine cord or a good cotton. Lovely rustic (hippy) colours and you could buy jumpers and tights to match
my girls had these, oh I`ve come over all nostalgic. I had some as well

it has been roasting here too and I have had all the curtains drawn on the sunny side all day. I cnnot cope with this heat and have turned into a hermit. The plus side is that there are no slugs and not a lot of bugs on the veggies. Its been windy all day too so no way could we put the umbrella up. I hide all day and then spend all evening watering, what a life!!0 -

they were a brilliant price in the 70s. Really good hard wearing clothes. I just loolked at the things for sale and they are nothing like the clothkits of old0

How strange! I was looking for some binding tape last week and found the shoulder straps from a little dress I made for DD from clothkit. When the child grew you removed the straps and they could wear the dress as a skirt. I got all nostalgic thinking about the little clothkit outfits I used to make.
Beautiful weather today but blooming frustrating. We had every plan to get the hedge 'junior' proof but nothing went right. DH's cunning plan (a) didn't work, the hedge cutters started to smell and sound odd so I had to use the hand shears. Plan (b) isn't going well either and we now need to buy chicken wire and rope. Not a happy bunny as we've already overspent this month.
On a happy note, while sitting on the grass waiting for DH to issue his next order, by this time he was decidedly grumpy, A1 wandered off and found a pull toy hidden in the herb patch. He wanted to play :T:D and seeing him so happy cheered us both up. Hopefully tomorrow we'll have more luck with the hedge, fingers crossed. The cutters were full of debris but the gearing looks ok. Please, please work.
Kidcat hope you're feeling better soon. Take it easy and recharge your batteries the next couple of days if you can. You've been under a lot of stress recently and the body has a nasty habit of biting back.
Take care all and enjoy the rest of the weekend."It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life, gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." Unknown0 -
I am shocked, I had a feeling Cloth kits were still trading but bloomin heck the prices! 2.55 for 1 button  I loved their stuff. Mind you those were the days when I wore Laura Ashley dresses too and bought her patchwork pieces for peanuts. Aaah the good old days :rotfl: I still have a small quilt I made for Dd and its a lovely now as it was then, such good quality.Clearing the junk to travel light

Jackie, thanks for the tip about the French restaurant. I will give them a call.
Kittie, thank for the info on the cucumber.
I enjoyed the Green Fair. I bought another aubergine plant and a climbing cucumber. I didn't get a chance to speak to the vertical veg man but he will be at the London permaculture fair in July. I also bought some goats milk soap for youngest ds to see if helps with his eczema. Strolled through Camden on the way home. It took me back to life before children - bars I saw bands play, restaurants we ate in.
Got back to the chaos and made dinner. I am now shattered. My shoulder is really sore. I hope it calms down so I can catch up on some sleep. A bubble bath and bed soon for me.GC 2011 Feb £626.89/£450 NSD3/7 March £531.26/£450 April £495.99/£500 NSD 0/7 May £502.79/£500

Hi everyone,
I've noticed a few of you mention costco, do you know what the criteria is for being able to get a membership card for this is? Do you have to run your own business?
Thanks for all your posts, I'm learning so much from this thread
