UGH! - it's been hideously hot here today, to the point where whatever I've tried to do, I've stood in sweat AND had a face the colour of a turkeys backside...........NOT a good look
Not sure what the outside temperature is, but when my g/house got to 40c inside  I humped all of my plants into a shady spot in the garden.
It's too much, far too much. If I'm not around tomorrow, you'll know I've melted.Aug11 £193.29/£240

Sigh. Well, we are at a cool grey cloudy 10C. I came in from the garden because it was too cold to be a$$ed!0

Aw Mardatha, sending sunny hugs your way! It's been sunny today but very windy; I nipped down to the allotment quickly this morning to cover my plants up with netting just to give them a bit of shade and stop them dessicating. Will go back later tonight to do some planting
although in a minute I am going to go and clean the yard - it is full of chicken poo and really needs doing, but this is the first time it's been dry enough for me to get out there and deep clean for a month! Was that too much information?
Kidcat, I didn't realise a tooth infection could be so serious  I hope you are feeling better soon.
Saveabobortwo, keep on saving!
Everyone else, have a good rest-of-weekendAspire not to have more but to be more.

Mardartha I feel your pain, yesterday was too hot for me to bear and today has been similar, I have a couple of fans pointing at me to keep my temp down and am still warm, apparently its burning outside. I wish we could mix all the temps together then share it out evenly. A nice temp for all rather than these extremes.0

Been catching up with what everbody is up to.
Free listing weekend on ebay again so took some more photos & have listed 8 items. All are football related so hopefully I'll get some bids. I am determined to get rid of as many surplus articles as possible from my house this year. Long way still to go.
Been very warm here today but has just started raining here in the north west.
Going to see my daughter for the day on Tuesday which will be nice as haven't seen here for a few weeks. Will also be able to see my grandsons when they come out of school. Really looking forward to that.
Bought the boys a Disney story book from the CS yesterday. Only 75p & has about 20 stories which will be great for bedtimes & for them to read by themselves as well.
Have a good evening everyone.0 -
I may be imagining it but I could that back during the discussions about buying flour in bulk and storing it, someone posted a link to a place for buying sacks of flour. I've been back to post 1850 and can't find it. Anyone who remembers what I'm talking about and can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful
I can't remember the original post, but I use Costco for sacks of white bread flour (manitoba strong flour - fantastic stuff) and Shipton Mill http://www.shipton-mill.com/ for everything else. As someone else said I too tend to split a sack of flour with a colleague and it's been great so far (and the rye flour when bought in bulk is about half the shop price!)
Mmmm just waiting for a sponge cake to finish cooking - I love the smell of home baking!0 -
Hippeechiq, I tried your chickpea recipe last night and it was scrummy. Thanks for sharing. I put the coriander garnish on, which made it look rather posh. I think the recipe would also work very well with chicken, and will probably try it out in a week or so's time.
DH came home yesterday with an invitation from one of his work colleague's to a wedding at a very smart venue. Spotted a sheer pinky-maroon "coat" for £2 in CS today, so am now on the hunt for a sleeveless shift to go under it and I'll be sorted.
Second batch of runner beans have completely failed to germinate, just like the first lot. I grubbed a couple up to check and nothing. Must have been a dud batch of seeds (Wilkinsons). Is there still time to get some more and start again do you think or should I just give it up as a bad job this year?0 -
hornetgirl yes there is still time and they can be put straight in the ground but if you think it is the seeds I would buy another packet and add them along with the others. You might get one or two from them.0
