Yes, my place stays. Its a condition of us moving in together so I would never be left with nothing again. He has watched me stubbornly claw my way back up again and is very different from the first one who cleared me out of pretty much everything. Also, if everything goes ok then my place would be used for parents at a later date as I am an only one so it falls to me to look after them and it would be sold to buy a bungalow nearby.

And kimitatsu - he is very flipping stubborn as well but has the biggest heart going. I am a fiery git. So, yes, there will be tantrums :D There are now :rotfl::rotfl:You know exactly where I am coming from. Thank you xx

I think the house isnt right because if it was I would be singing from the rooftops. I knew instantly with my little cottage and it was a tip.

Can I rant? please? I am sat here crying. A neighbour, who admittedly has health problems, who is a well-heeled middle class person has asked me to help out with her very large an overgrown garden. Now, I like gardening and living in a little terrace only have a tiny garden but I do have an allotment and regulaly share excess produce from said allotment with all and sundry including this neighbour. So I thought it would be a nice afternoon or two a week for the summer helping her in her garden. I have done it for a month now and she pays me but its all too much and I feel used. She doesnt help at all but sits in the house watching telly or chatting to friends, i've noticed an odd job man turn up and do for her,a cleaner and shes having the house decorated so the painter is here. she even has frozen meals delivered so she doesnt have to cook. I have found out that she paid the local village gardening guy 50% more than she pays me and has replaced him with me ,knowing me and DH are short of money and thinks shes doing me a favour. i am so upset, I am in my mid 50's and all this work is exhausting,I'm even having to cut the lawn. I feel so used.

I am responding to this before having caught up on the last few pages, but if i don't respond to your post now, i will forget, so i am responding as i read through...don't want to spam the thread though :o

OldTractor, if it were me i would ask the lady for an increase in 'wages', stating that you assumed she would do her share of the work and that you have been left to do more than you believed you would be required to do. I wouldn't continue to work for her for less money than the gardener received.

Thanks Kimitatsu, Lindy-loo, Charis and GreyQueen. Only got two mins so just skimmed through. Will go back and look at what you have all said properly in a bit but just wanted to thank you for taking the time to answer me. Feel better about the income support now. Haven't done a benefit check or anything yet. Only just got the letter a couple of days ago. Will get organised maybe on Monday. Thought we would have to pay for everything. My husband retired early on health grounds and so not old enough for pension credits or state pension. I haven't worked since I had the children and also have long term health problems. I get DLA but don't know how long that will last now they are changing it but we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

    Hello all,

Just quickly popping on to say that baby Daniel arrived on Monday evening weighing 9lbs 15. It was a very, very fast delivery. Didn't get any contractions until about 8pm and he was born at 11:32pm the same night.

Congratulations on the birth of your lovely newborn baby :)

it gives big business (like Monsanto but not exclusively them) control of the food chain. Not just because poor framers can't save their seed from year to year and effectively become annual sharecroppers because they have to pay a licence each year. They have been suing organic farmers for infringement of patent because THEIR GM wheat contaminated the organic wheat on a neighbouring organic farm. You couldn't make it up!!

You should see the results after the fields have been sprayed around here. Not a single weed in one big field, absolutely bland, then he put the sweetcorn in and that is growing in big robotic rows with not a single weed or songbird on the field. That sweetcorn is all identical to each other and is chopped up for cattle feed. So it`s a triple whammy ie powerful herbicide, pesticide and whever messing has been done with the cattle. Re the sprays, don`t for a minute think that they are using garden strength

    Congratulations JediTeacher - great news:)

For those of you growing veggies and that have a Starbucks nearby I thought I'd share something.

Our canteen at work serves Starbucks coffees etc and last week while I was being served the assistant asked if I was a gardener. When I said yes she offered me some used ground coffee beans to put on my plants and veg (I guess like compost). When she brought me the package it was all neatly packaged up and clearly marked as "grounds for your ground". Apparently all Starbucks do this, she told me most of them have a spot where they put the bags of ground beans/mush out for the public to take. In the case of my canteen nobody was taking them though so they started mentioning it to people.

I'm not sure how much good they will be however I figure it's worth a try and it was free so if there is a Starbucks near you it may be worthwhile popping in to see if they have any. I'll keep you posted on how successful they are at increasing my veggie yield.
