My daughter is a vegetarian, and we have always supported her in this.
The only downside is her skin, which has clearly suffered - she had lovely skin before. She takes a zinc supplement but - like all teenagers - she has to REMEMBER to take it! Other than that she seems very healthy.

What's the NHS certificate?
Here's the official page for help with NHS charges. If you need a prescription or an eye test or whatever while you're waiting for the paperwork to go through, make sure you ask the pharmacist or the optician for a receipt for monies paid. Provided it postdates your application, you can apply for a refund, which I seem to recall you get from the person who gave you the receipt, once you have the letter giving you authority to reclaim.
Have you run your income details through Martin's benefit checker recently, now your details have changed? You never know what you might be entitled to.0 -
Best bet is to buy organic tofu (I prefer silken tofu for cooking and love the flavoured and smoked for salads). However, if you're going to eat significant amounts of it either eat with seaweed as the Japanese do, or take an iodine supplement. A friend who is a nutritionist says that she recommends it for all her female clients who complain about their busts being too small
Seriously no matter what seems to be done to it I just cannot get along with it. Think its the texture and the fact it doesnt have a flavour. I once had some seitan in a pie once bought from a healthfood store and whatever that was was lovely..What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Now here's a suggestion, for those who grow their own, for a chance to bypass agribusiness and enhance our diets with heritage/ heirloom varieties. Agribusiness has almost succeeded in wiping out the original tastes of these varieties.0

really you like tofu? IMO its the devils own food, its like eating tasteless rubbery shoe soles..I really can't get on with it. I think its what Satan sent to punish the veggies for not eating gods beautiful animals:p:p

I don't particularly like the ordinary stuff, although if it is cooked properly it can be nice. But the silken stuff is great in tomato sauces and stews ... As I still eat meat I also sometimes mix it with mince in lasagnes etc to make them lighter. Smoked tofu and basil or red tofu are delicious and don't have the rubbery texture. Red tofu is very crumbly ...
Mind you I LOVE broccoli, which some people think is weird...
Quoth, however, i wouldn't touch if you paid me to, and I don't like 'fake meat' products that try to pretend they're something they aren't. Good veggie or vegan food doesn't mean meat substitutes.0 -
Congratulations, Jedi Teacher!
I have had a quiet day today. I should do some weeding but my shoulder is very painful, it has been for a couple of weeks. No idea what I have done to it. Quite pleased dh and the boys are going to my bil's to watch rugby and football. I plan to watch the 'King's speech' with a big bowl of popcorm to devour.
I am still enjoying my meat free diet.GC 2011 Feb £626.89/£450 NSD3/7 March £531.26/£450 April £495.99/£500 NSD 0/7 May £502.79/£500

Congratulations Jediteacher xx
I'm looking forward to trying the chickpea curry. We already have most of the ingredients, so will probably give it a go during the week.
Took a trip into town this morning, to discover that a shiny big new Lakeland store has opened. More attempts to part me from my money0 -
Well, decisions need to be made at Chez Red...for a while OH and I have been looking half heartedly at buying a house together. We rent mine out (after I have done all this work
)
Now, up until now I havent seen anything and knowing how picky his nibs is and the fact we had the OBB I knew I was safe. But today, we have seen a potential house. It really is a lovely place but is very cold inside. It used to be a chantry. I think with a Squirrel in the corner (it is that kind of house, and its a type of wood burner) of the dining "hall" it would be toast. All other heating is electric apart from a mahoosive open fire in the living room.
But I am scared!!!!:rotfl: Big roughty, toughty Red is actually petrified!!!I have lived on my own for 6 years and I was left with nothing. Everyone stays at arms length. I actually have nothing to lose by doing this and everything to gain perhaps another human being besides OH!!!:eek::eek: My feelings for him are not in question.
For those of you on second time around, are these feelings natural about moving in with someone?! Or am I really the weird mat cat woman people think I am!!!And not only do I have to face this fear but there is a chicken run :eek::eek::eek::eek:
Oh, and to keep it on thread, this would be seriously money saving for me!!!:D
