Lora I'm so sad for your loss hun :grouphug:
lainey Hope your shoulder is better soon
Glad you liked the Chana Masala Ceridwen. Dried chickpeas would make it even cheaper, as you say. I have to confess, I've never used dried Chickpeas, or dried anything actually (except red lentils) I guess because I'm always worried that I won't cook them properly
And JediTeacher Congratulations on the safe arrival of Daniel :T
We've still had no rain...or at least, not enough to get damp in. I read somewhere (can't remember if it was on here on not though) that you can water plants with the liquid you boil you veggies in - is that right? I saved some water that I boiled broccoli in, and some that I boiled potatoes in (and again, I can't remember whether it was the broccoli water or the potato water) but when I went to use it, it smelt like a stagnant pond water, so I didn't like to use it - and GreyQueen (if you don't mind my asking) don't plants mind the bubble bath/soap or whatever that's in your bath water? Or is "bath water" just a term you use for previously used water?
Well done on your online windfall. Every little helps eh? Especially if it covers a couple of bills
By the way, I'm sorry if I've asked this before, but I do have days where I can't remember diddly squat.....I'll write it down this time if anyone is kind enough to answer

Congratulations, jediteacher!
All these people with superfast deliveries - I'm SOOO jealous! My SIL also gave birth in about four hours flat.
Not me though!
Esther, you sound like me with my DD - DH was in the south of France and I called him to say I'm in labour, started last night about 2am, please come home. He called a couple of hours later to say he'd managed to get a flight.
The contractions IMMEDIATELY stopped...
That was at 11am and at 3pm I walked from Tooting to Morden and back in an effort to get the contractions started again. By the time I could see Tooting Broadway station on the way back I was fairly staggering :rotfl::rotfl: Anyway, I walked into my house about 10 minutes before DH and *luckily* I was definitely in labour by then. DD was FINALLY born just after 11pm - by the time they got me and her onto a ward it was 1am. So poor old DH went home, got a flight back to Nice at the crack of dawn, taxi to Cannes, arrived for his 11am meeting with the BBC at 1105 and apologised, saying, sorry I'm late, I've just been home to see my daughter being born.
He always says a) it's the best excuse he's ever given for being late (they bought him a congratulatory lunch after the meeting) and b) our DD has always been late (2 weeks) and expensive (cost of flight) from the day she was born...
I'd just like to add that this was the slightly LESS eventful of my two deliveries :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Oh lora, how sad for you and your family
I had a friend who died of a brain tumour too, so I kind of know what it's like to be around someone with that. Not good at all. I didn't want to say before though!

Just a heads up before I go to bed - approved food have some lloyd grosman tomato sauces for 75p and some bruschetta sauce as well. I've had them before and they're good, so I've stocked up on a few.
They had nature valley chewy granola bars too, at between 60p and 40p for a box of 6 (depends on how many boxes you order) so might be worth stocking up on those for kids' packed lunches/snacks? They're out of date but hey who cares? They won't go off quickly so they'll be safe enough to eat for a while yet.
I bought 3kg of pearl barley too. I love the stuff so I know it will get eaten!
Night all.Aspire not to have more but to be more.

Have been catching up on this thread tonight and thank you, everyone who contributes to it.Was out on Fri with some former work colleagues and had a pleasant evening, but have been feeling a bit down today as I am so unhappy where I have been sent to work(nochoice).I have a very stressful job but try to make the best of things. Also I feel very guilty and keep telling myself that I'm lucky to have a job so should feel grateful and not be such a wuss.
Anyway, the point of this post is that I'm thankful to this site for the company and support when I can't sleep tonight.:AHugs.We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.Oscar Wilde xxx:A0 -

Me too Trifles. Really hope you managed to get some sleepxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Trifles - Hugs to you. It is so horrible to dread going to work - even if you are lucky to have a job. Keep remembering the PAYPACKET x xOutside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

I went to costco yesterday and have just compared a few prices compared to sainsbury`s
walnuts £10.35 v £24
sultanas £3.95 v £4.92
napolina chopped tomatoes £5.49 v £11.67
lentils £2.39 v £3.52
malt vinegar £2.29 v £4.85
napolina tomato puree £6.89 v £9.48
mmm certainly got me thinking about making more effort to get there. I don`t make the journey just for costco but can call in when seeing dd. I noticed new food products there yesterday0 -

You should see the results after the fields have been sprayed around here. Not a single weed in one big field, absolutely bland, then he put the sweetcorn in and that is growing in big robotic rows with not a single weed or songbird on the field. That sweetcorn is all identical to each other and is chopped up for cattle feed. So it`s a triple whammy ie powerful herbicide, pesticide and whever messing has been done with the cattle. Re the sprays, don`t for a minute think that they are using garden strength
Well not bearing in mind that young woman recently who won her court battle against a "conventional" (ie chemical) farmer adjacent to her home - because the chemicals had made her severely ill.
 - wonders how one is supposed to live adjacent to some nice fields in view of:
- possible chemicals being sprayed at regular intervals (bring back all farms being organic I say)
- fields possibly being sold for development (bang goes some of that nice surrounding area one has paid good money to have)
- fields being camped on (officially or otherwise) by travellers who have decided they want it and blow the local residents...
'Tis difficult to know just where to live for the best in such an overcrowded country to avoid all Bad Things - be they of the urban or rural variety...

Thats such a shame about that farmhouse being unoccupied and falling into dereliction. Even if that farming conglomerate isnt particularly interested then they could offer it for part rent/part DIY work to a capable home handyperson (a sort of "You live in it for a cheap rent and your labour restoring the place" sorta deal). I'm sure there'd be takers for a deal like that (it would just be a question of having to check out some of their previous handiwork to see if they had a good level of skills).
Can never understand anyone missing a good chance to make some money pretty easily ...(shades of family business genes popping up....). To me - one looks round and sees if there are any unused assets, etc, and gets on with using them. It took me two seconds (well - okay two hours then....) to come straight back with a list of "further ideas" on hearing that a friend has started up a new business. Ideas for promoting it this way and ideas for a sideline on the business to fill a very visible "gap in the market" I've noticed. As I put it "There is a type of firm I intend to employ one of these days - and there arent any of them in existence at all...and a lot more peeps besides me might need a firm like that....".
Total puzzlement at that conglomerate missing such an obvious "business opportunity"...
I suppose they might possibly be deliberately neglecting that farmhouse though - in the specific hopes/intention that it deteriorates to such an extent that it can be demolished without trouble with the "authorities" - even though its a Listed Building. I think that might actually be the truth of the matter...Think the best way for you to deal with this is to assume that is probably so and go to said Authorities and ask what powers they have to ensure that Listed Buildings are maintained and (if they have some) get them to enforce them. If that conglomerate finds they have no option but to maintain the building (ie because the Authorities are making their life a misery for not doing so) then hopefully they will get on and do so and actually use the building.0
