Frittata. Add some extra potatoes when you cook them. Slice. Them, some frozen or fresh veg, tin of salmon or some ham. Add a few beaten eggs. Cook like omelette then shove under grill. When cool. Slice and freeze.GC Mar 13 £47.36/£1500 -

Did my weekly shop at Asda tonight and was very impressed with the whoopsies I picked up - Honey and Sunflower Bread for 29p, Organic Broccoli 49p, mange toute 39p, 2 corn on the cob 49p and a bag of ready sliced red onions for 10p.
But the real success story was the Asda value beetroot at 10p a jar. I'd seen it on a post here so I figured I'd buy a jar and see what it was like. As I was picking it up another woman was buying about 8 so I asked her if it was ok. She said she normally made fancy beetroot with peppercorns and herbs for christmas gifts so she was buying these and about a month before Christmas she would decant them into another jar, add the extra ingredients and then decorate the jars with bows and labels. She said at 10p a jar she couldn't make it for that and the empty jars would be used for jam at some point. What a great idea! I bought 4 jars! A whole 40P - now I wonder what other goodies Asda have in the value range - time for an online treasure hunt I think!
I have to say in my pre MSE days I wouldn't have looked at the yellow stickers in Asda, now I'm on the hunt for good buys.
In fact as we were having dinner tonight which was home made macaroni (defrosted after the power cut saga and none the worse) made with BOGOF cheese, the lovely sunflower and honey bread and then a cup of tea with one of Twinks hobnobs (I wish I had a pound for everyone who has asked for that recipe) I realised just how great the people on here are. :j0 -
Thanks littlecal.
Scottishminnie I fancy a piece of that bread, it sounds fab!

rainbow, thankyou - perfect idea. OH hates pastry and bread, I need stuff for his packed lunches. crustless [STRIKE]quiche[/STRIKE] flan will be perfect. Gave some eggs to DS2s teacher this morning but still have 22 to use plus todays. Trying so hard not to waste stuff but just dont have enough time for all that I want to do.
what about some meringues or a couple of pavlovas. If you store them in an air tight container (or clingfilm the pavlovas) they will keep perfectly for weeks.
Does still leave the yolks to use up although you could make lemon curd.
p.s. I meant for the 22 eggs - not OH's lunch!!!0 -
Can I rant? please? I am sat here crying. A neighbour, who admittedly has health problems, who is a well-heeled middle class person has asked me to help out with her very large an overgrown garden. Now, I like gardening and living in a little terrace only have a tiny garden but I do have an allotment and regulaly share excess produce from said allotment with all and sundry including this neighbour. So I thought it would be a nice afternoon or two a week for the summer helping her in her garden. I have done it for a month now and she pays me but its all too much and I feel used. She doesnt help at all but sits in the house watching telly or chatting to friends, i've noticed an odd job man turn up and do for her,a cleaner and shes having the house decorated so the painter is here. she even has frozen meals delivered so she doesnt have to cook. I have found out that she paid the local village gardening guy 50% more than she pays me and has replaced him with me ,knowing me and DH are short of money and thinks shes doing me a favour. i am so upset, I am in my mid 50's and all this work is exhausting,I'm even having to cut the lawn. I feel so used.0

OK....deep breath... she is doing you a favour and saving her money. You dont have to do it. You choose to do it. If you feel used then just stop. Just because someone has more money than you it doesnt mean they are richer. Focus on what you do have rather than what you dont and you will find you become happier.
No matter how much you are being paid it is more than you would have were you not doing it.0 -
Thats the problem,we need the money but I'll be b******d if I'm going to sweat whilst lady muck sit sipping tea, when the man she used to get to garden was paid a lot more for the same work, which I didnt know until today. I'm going to tell her to stuff it .0

Well all I will say is that you are obviously not that hard up then because when you are you will do ANYTHING to put food on the table0
