More money saving attempts! Last night I sorted out a load of stuff for a car boot. Have a bag of 3 for a pound items and priced up the more decent stuff for 50p or £1. Just need a dry Sunday now and lots of buyers:j

Have made a meal plan and a shopping list as taking Mum shopping today. Will suggest Tesco as she spends a fortune on food and they have 5p off fuel if you spend £50 which she will (I carnt)

Have ordered some vouchers from Tesco for a day out to the Spaceport so cheap day out there for half term.

Pizza Hut sent me a voucher which is a pizza and unlimited salad for £5 and kids eat free!!! Hmmm do you think they would mind if I took a tub and took some salad home:rotfl:

So Iam battling on with the money saving battle. Also have 2 lots of washing on the line and made my own cleany spray for the bathroom with some stardrops, water and an old spray bottle. Go me:T
I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round

    Coming out of lurkedom.

I do agree re: the food prices. I volunteer in a local foodbank. I must've been really naive when I first started working there as I imagined it'd be homeless people coming in but we do have families who are just struggling so much...and a lot of OAPs. They've to be given a voucher by social services so it's done quite strictly. Another thing that shocked me was that at the local college teenagers were turning up without lunch because their family needed to make that saving. So we provide lunches for a number of students.

Thanks Grandma for your advice. we dont actually have any window sills. but someone might find your tip useful. Thanks for posting

Fuddled I find any mention of aldi and lidl baffling as whenever I look in them they seem a lot more expensive than mr t and mr s, the veg always looks ropy and the meat always looks grey..

Sorry for double posting but bean sprouts etc don't need a lot of light just a cupboard!

redlady so sorry to hear about OBB. It's amazing how attached we get to our animals - I cried buckets over one particular cat who died aged 14. Look after yourself.

gailey Sounds as if you're doing really well considering that your little man is only 6 weeks. Make the most of what rest you can get. I had 5 babies in just over 3 years (this did include twins), and I know I didn't always take advantage of chances to put my feet up. I can still remember how exhausted I used to feel, so really do sympathise. Sometimes though with my youngest I would lie on the bed to feed him if my DH was home to mind the others.

By the way, where in Bristol is Farmfoods - is it on my side (I'm in Bath)?

Theres only 2farmfoods in city .

smaller store in bedminster high streetwhich guess might be neared you depends which side of bath you are.
The one we go to is fliton its on the ringroad pasts the mod and as just before you get to southmead hospital.
We livejust off ring road bit its still 15-20min trip , ringroad bad traffic and direction we dont normally go in we tend to stock to kingswood/emersons/longwell side if city.

Havent noticed any inwiltshire towns went to trowbridge sunday and shocked how much that towns changed they got so much choice.
When I lived in bath many years ago was just safeway, waitrose or sainsburys. The somerefilds used to be rubbish and so was iceland.
Everyone seemsto think people loadedin bath wasexpensive place to live.

The carboot up landsdown racecourse sometimes has good veg man.

    5babies in 3years:eek:not sure I could cope.
Glad im not onlyone struggling with food rises.
feel like no matter where I shop its pretty much the same people say tesco cheap I find them expensive. I much prefer sainsburys basisc, morrisions lacks range, co-op very expensive unless on offer.
I havent got the time like I usedto shop them all.

hubby said he go lids tommorow. hoping we can last 2weeks thatmeans we spend around 70pounds week for family of 5including 2 in nappies.

I dont want to crap but find healthy stuff and better quality goingup.
I worry sometimes how change in economy will affect peoples health.

We eat to live not live to eat.
That people reguarly miss out on meals.
that they eat verylittle fruit as deem to it to expensive.
live on frozen processed food like chips with pizza ect as to them seems like easiet cheapest option.
Does seem bad tesco prefer to bump up valuebut not their finest range.
Smeof its to do with commoditoes and inflation.

I want to feed the family well.
I find myself giving them the odd thing I never thourght I would few years back like beans or spagetti hoops on toast when really skint.
Looking foward to picking them free foraged berries soon.

Felt really bad other week local milkman trying to get me to sign up for deliveries but at £1.70 for 4pints I just cant afford it and feel like I want to support local but constantly lining the profits of the big guys.

I love the farmshop but cant afford to buy much from there its occasional treat.

A few years back me and hubby thourght buying direct must be cheaper was amazed atcosts of farmshops and food market we tried not everyone can afford organic.

I really enjoyed the c4 peoples supermarket programme and felt same as hugh does if we can buy the stuff that goes to waste the wonkey cucumbers, the oversized apples, the fish thats thrown back into the sea we could get cheap healthy food we do desperatly need.

Having worked in food retail lower income groups get healthy start vouchers used to be just milk then was switched to fruit and veg but inreality very few spent them on fruit and veg,

I do think a good way for the state to support people is maybe state owned foodshops seling stuff at cheap prices as due to lack of transport of choice of retailers many people have little choice but to pay the expensive prices at their nearest shop.

Right now im not convinced anyones the cheapest each store has its own offers if you chose to justshop in one you wont get the cheapest price.

I have just been onto tesco to look at the spaceport tickets. Am i right in thinking that if i exchange a £5 clubcard voucher I get £15 of admission (so £15 off £20 family admission)?

Ive just exchanged vouchers for the blue planet then read your post as I still have some left. Been saving them since last year.

Bought a printer yesterday our first one in many years and used some vouchers from doing surveys - have printed out lots of coupons from the board.

I made £60 at a car boot last Sunday--mainly from stuff which has been lurking in the loft for a long time. Lots of people trying to do the same as me--but not so many customers. I guess we are all trying to look after the pennies just now. This almost doubles JSA for this week.

which we also dont have sadly. nor do we have any counterspace. the kitchen here is the size of a small train toilet . once we get in the cooker- that I fear is about to die soon. the fridge freezer which has died and the washng machine that also isnt working - neither of which we can afford to repair or replace and the sink there is no room. We have no worktops save a tiny corner one which has the kettle and toaster. any food prep has to be done on a chopping board on my knee in the lounge or on the hob part of the stove. i did buy a spouter for my flatmate a few years ago on his request for his bday but he says we have nowhere to put it :(

Redlady so sorry to read about OBB, but your idea of him joining OH's wife is wonderful, so thoughtful. A friend of mine phoned yesterday to say she's just had her dog put to sleep. He's been her constant companion even going to work with her so the hole he will leave in her life is huge. I was also choking back the tears when she told me even though it had been expected. Dread 'ancient one' taking his leave and joining 'beloved little furry thing', I'm going to be a gibbering wreck, but took great comfort looking at old photo's and sharing memories of her with DH.

DH on holiday and decided to come shopping with me yesterday and it came as quite and eye opener - HOW MUCH :mad:!!!! I'd been saying that everything's been going up weekly and just got the odd grunt and mmmm, but it really registered when he saw for himself. We did a variety of stores and stocked up on lots of tins ie B beans and tomatoes, plus squirrelling away items for DS going to uni. A*da, A*di, Home Barg and wandered round Mr T in sunday. We also find Mr T expensive and the checkout folk quite miserable compared to Mr A.

Talk about thrifty or bonkers - the wind blew a little imitation rose in a glass vase off the windowsill in the bathroom at the weekend. It had looked so pretty and not liking to throw anything away although it had only cost a couple of pounds I tried to work out how to salvage it. Then a mug that a friend of mine gave me came to mind. It had a crack so couldn't be used for drinks but I loved the bee design so (you've guessed it) I couldn't bring myself to throw it away. So my little rose and the remains of it's vase are now sitting in the mug with a pretty green fleecy material saved from some flowers I'd been given, hiding the damage. I now get to see the rose and the mug which had been hidden ways in the cupboard. :T These little things make me very happy.

DH and I went to see the Manic Street Preachers last night as his birthday present. Standing for hours, toes jumped on by big excited young men, bits of kitchen towel stuck in my ears (very loud) and the bottoms of my trousers and trainers soaked in beer from the cups left all over the floor. Hell? No enjoyed every minute of it but will wear my steel toecapped boots next time :D

We owe £300 to gas for last winters use :( I thought it was a mistake as my usage has gone down in comparison to the previous year but no, the figures match up. I'm kicking myself for not looking at my account earlier but never mind. Going to have to throw money at it over the summer in the quest to start off in October owing nothing.

Already sussed that washing on 30oC doesn't activate the gas boiler. All these small things are going to add up (£40 in credit with electricity since the tumbler broke down and will not be fixed) small things alright... just need them to make a huge difference!
I'm challenging myself to only buy clothes from charity shops till 20th May 2012.

Gas Account in debit: £332.77.. working hard to clear it by Autumn 2011.
Car fund in preparation for post graduate education: £0
