You lot really are good you know! Thank you xxxxx I guess in real life I tend to be very private and yet you all know everything!!!! The OH is coming over tonight and it has, as I thought it would, made him think about his first wife. I am going to give him a big hug and make him some twinks (he loves them!) in the new Kenwood. It will be in honour of OBB!!! I can see the port coming out later and lots of tears being shed. I already have big puffy eyes from bawling at work. In fact I didnt do any work this afternoon!...did I mention that the OBB loved the kebab from the Takeaway Secret too??? :D

In relation to the prices of stuff I normally buy a joint of gammon in Morrisons. The last time I did this it was £3.45. This week I went ( a gap of about two months) it had gone up to £4.83!!!!!:eek::eek: I also filled up Ernie (the car) last night and for the first time it cost me over £70. It is only a golf but I have to do 40 miles every day.

Sorry about your cat, redlady. We have pets too, and will be sad when they die - it is all quite natural. When you sit down with OH later, treat it not only as a grieving session but also as a celebration of OBB's life. If you have photos of him, you could go through them and talk about the good times and the funny things that made you laugh. From what you have said, it sounds like he was really loved and looked after, and what a lovely life he must have had with you.

Yes, animals certainly do get to you.

Sorry to hear your news Redlady- it's never easy losing a dear pet but still wouldn't want to be without one. They can bring such joy into your lives.

redlady so sorry to hear about OBB. It's amazing how attached we get to our animals - I cried buckets over one particular cat who died aged 14. Look after yourself.

gailey Sounds as if you're doing really well considering that your little man is only 6 weeks. Make the most of what rest you can get. I had 5 babies in just over 3 years (this did include twins), and I know I didn't always take advantage of chances to put my feet up. I can still remember how exhausted I used to feel, so really do sympathise. Sometimes though with my youngest I would lie on the bed to feed him if my DH was home to mind the others.

By the way, where in Bristol is Farmfoods - is it on my side (I'm in Bath)?

Redlady - didn't want to read and run - just wanted to say I am sincerely sorry to hear about your sad loss. What a lucky cat OBB was to have such kind owners to give him a long life and a peaceful end. God bless you x x x x

Sorry to hear about OBB, Redlady - thinking of you and sending warm mental hugs your way.

I'm starting to organise a bit of a seed exchange/glut exchange with family and friends. I'm growing some things they don't have room for, and they're growing some things I don't feel I have the skill for - if we get a glut of something we'll share it out equally. :) Likewise for the seeds - any we can save from the things we grow, we'll share so as to use everything. I also picked up a packet of Stevia seeds today so I'll be doing a bit of reading up on that.

redlady, sorry to hear about OBB - I can still vividly remember driving home sobbing after my cat had to be put to sleep and, although we've always had animals, I am probably the least animal-mad of us all. Yes, pets do get to you - they are part of the family, after all.

jackel - glad you've posted and welcome out of lurkdom! :T

jamanda and grandma247 and seakay, thanks for the tomato preservation posts - the tomato puree one was really interesting. I "can" my tomatoes - for longer than 10 minutes, I hasten to add - but I make them into sauce first. I also did a ?Jamie Oliver? thing last year where I roasted the tomatoes and then made them into sauce - that was especially yummy, but only worth doing if you've got the oven on anyway. Jamanda, I have a nice little bottling guide complete with four different methods and timings, so if you'd be interested in a copy, then do pm me.

On the subject of dehydrators, there was an article about them in this month's Home Farmer, and they were selling them at Ascott for £29.99 - it's on this page. I think this is actually the machine they used in the article, so for that price, it might be worth thinking about.
