You paint the stripes at 90 degrees to the window. i.e. start with the window behind you and work away from it. Don't paint so the window is always on your left or right hand side.
Does everyone do it this way? I have painted many houses in my life and not considered this at all? I usually just paint the way that the ceiling/room is longest.0 -

Only going from what a pro told me, which also concurs with my DIY book.
By working away from the window the light shines off the wet paint. As you are looking along this stripe you can see missed areas easily.0 -

Or, use magic pink paint and you can see the missed areas independent on which direction you paint!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
Nowt wrong with Wickes trade paint. My house is painted with it and the job was done by my brother, who is a decorator. He doesn't use Wickes paint normally, but said he was surprised how good it was.
I suspect you are not applying it properly.Using a roller isn't as easy as it looks. You are probably getting too much in some places and not enough in others.
Just a thought but do you or anyone else in the house smoke? If so,you need to give the ceiling a good scrub with sugar soap before the paint is applied as nicotine will show through if not removed and make the paint look patchy.0 -
I'm having the same problems as the OP. Similar to the photos posted. Just looked at a few videos on YouTube and I really can't see what I'm doing wrong!
How do I ensure the roller is evenly loaded? Should it be really saturated with paint and re-loaded very frequently?
If the ceiling is patchy now, what is the likelihood of salvaging a decent coverage with further coats, am I just exacerbating the problem?
