Painting Ceilings - Its going on terribly and looking awful!

Hey all
I'm currently repainting my entire house (approx 8 years old). The walls are looking great (Dulux Timeless White - Matt) and I'm having no problems with them at all but the ceiling isn't painting well in any room.

I'm using:-
Brand new 15L Wicks Trade Matt Emulsion (for walls and ceilings) in Brilliant White.
http://www.wickes.co.uk/trade-matt-paint-white-15l/invt/205177/

12 inch roller and tray from Screwfix
ProDec Medium Pile Woven Acrylic Sleeve from Screwfix

Its just looks terrible! Its streaky, some of it looks to have a smooth texture, some a rough texture, some a mid texture, its looks different shades.
I'm painting on top of the white that is already there and onto a smooth well prepared surface (No bits, bumps or lumps etc), so I cant for the life of me work out whats going wrong?

I'm wondering if the paint is too thick maybe?
Should I move back to 9" rollers and sleeves as they might cover better?

The funny thing is that its only the paint thats different between the ceiling and the walls, so it makes me wonder if its the paint thats the problem?

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Cheap trade emulsion from DIY sheds is a waste of time if you want a decent finish - I've found it's only good for mist coating new plaster.

iT does sound as though the paint is too thick but it also sounds as though theres a problem with the way its being applied too. Got a pic?

    Cheers

I didnt think that was cheap? Is TRADE not decent then? I would have thought TRADE was what the pros used?
Any suggestions of better/more expensive paint then?

    Hey,
Its a little too dark here at the moment to get a decent pic. Will try later or tomorrow weather permitting.

Wickes Trade paint actually isn't bad now. Its made for them by Kalon. I think he means the horrid, own brand, thin as peas retail spec stuff.

    Cheers

I used Dulux Magic white on the ceilings in two rooms. The ceiling where recently reskimmed over the artex. Looks great.

Then I had living room ceiling done, but in this case they couldn't just skim the ceiling as the artex was a bit loose in places and they discovered that the ceiling was not screwed to the joists, but nailed, with some nails missing the joists completely - so new plasterboard on the ceilings. There was a crack developing across the ceiling on Sunday when I cam to give it the first mist coat, so decided to buy some crack-free paint. I have to say, the crack was covered. But the finish is not so nice, it is supposed to be matt, but there is some sheen in places. I guess that is because the paint was so thick.

So, I am going to give another coat for this ceiling in Magic white - I had a very good experience with it in other two rooms, where it dried to nice even matt finish. And you don't dilute this paint. And you can see what you painted and what not (you know how it is with painting white on white - have I painted this spot yet?)

In this context "trade" means cheap. A pro would never go to a DIY shed.

Better paint? I usually go for Johnstones/Leyland, which is a brand a lot of pros go for.

Thats not going to help. If you use that over the mess the mess will still show through. You have to deal with the mess first. Got that pic yet?

Contract may mean cheap but its still not the same weak as peas own brand retail spec stuff.
