Fog lights when there is no fog???

!!!!!! is that all about?

Trundling home last night in my little car stuggling to see anything because of the idiot behind tailgating with full (HID) beam and fog lights on. On coming traffic also using fog lights. I could see it was dark but the roads all had street lights so visability was good.

I pulled into a lorry stop to let the idiot behind past ( I was already being naughty and going slightly faster than I should) when I pulled out behind him he instantly slowed down to 10 mph below the speed limit?? No idea why unless he thought I was a copper in an unmarked car, but why he would think that given that I was driving a Citron AX I will never know :rotfl:

Why why why most people use ruddy fog lights, is it cool or trendy at the moment?

Grrrr grumble grumble grumble, Monday morning rant over

Because they are idiots (And people behave like sheep... If one person does it, then all the other idiots follow...)

It is actually an offence and you can get a fine if the police decide to pull you over..

You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves.

    [Law RVLR regs 25 & 27]

You should have made a note of the Reg Number and reported them. The police might not do anything though unless numerous people made complaints...

Bit of an oldie - but still relevant http://www.cwn.org.uk/999/west-midlands-police/2001/01/010118-fog-lights.htm

I hate this to. Had one norse the other day drive behind me with one light on full beam and the other on side lights. Was real annoying as it kept shining in my wing mirrors and rear view mirror.

I was naughty then though :( I slowed down to 20 mph and put my rear fog lights on. He got the hint and turned his lights down.
  • I absolutely hate improper use of fog lights- why do people insist on using them when there's a slight mist on the road?

When you're following someone with their rear fog light on it is so distracting and when I've had to follow them for half an hour give me a headache.

I was following one idiot the other day with his rear foglight on and I flashed my lights at him as a gentle reminder that it was on but he ignored me. I then overtook him (thats how foggy it was- I was able to see clearly enough to easily and safely overtake him) so I flashed my rear foglight on and off at him- again as a polite reminder that it wasn't the least bit foggy. Did he turn them off? No he deliberately put his lights on full beam/ front fog lights on (am not sure which) to completely blind me.

I just don't understand why people can't just put them on when its foggy, when someone comes up behind you and doesn't crash into you they have worked and it is time to turn them off, when there is no one behind you again then put them back on- it's not rocket science!

I'm so happy to have the chance to vent!

But why all of a sudden? I've been driving for years and years and only recently have I noticed that people are suddenly starting to drive around with their fog lights on. What's going on? I thought it might be some trendy 'I've got two sets of lights. How cool is that' thing going on.

  • Oh its been going on for ages around here, I just started to notice it more when I was driving an hour each way to work and back. Its far more annoying following a fog light for an hour than it is for 10 mins. I really do rant about it all the time though, possibly could do with relaxing about it....

I blame the car manufacturers for giving them more toys to play with, the idiots think because they are there they must have them on.

It is common for the youngsters to drive with their fog lights on, it's the in thing I gather.

One middle aged dope had his on and I flashed him but he just kept them on. When we pulled up at the lights I gestured to him and he wound down his window so I told him I'd been blinded by his fog lights for the last 8 miles on the A road and he sarcasticly replied, 'It's foggy, get some glasses!'

He had no idea whatsoever that they should be switched off once somebody is behind you.

How do these cretins get a licence?
